I acknowledge that a lot of "preachers" are indeed conmen, but I don't think it's fair to pigeon hole all of them into such a group. Some of them preach and explain God, Jesus, and the Bible with pure hearts, and indeed bring their flocks closer to the truth.
eta: My dad preached at two small rural churches, and received a very small stipend from both of them, and every Sunday afternoon during my childhood, I remember going to nursing homes and hospitals, and visiting the elderly and the sick, and praying for them.

Btw, there were no drugs or alcohol involved. She was Bakker's secretary and she had sober sex with him and later decided there was money to be made by extorting him, due to his image and what he preached about. The rape accusation was never taken seriously by any law enforcement or anyone else, except Sweet Jimmy who tried to keep the fact that he had sex with her from going public by paying her.
