Would rather live in a world where SEC hockey is a thing.

I would watch it for sure. We can have all the hooligans meet at sonic to kick everything off. I'll bring a broken bottle.

It would never get better ratings than MLS. Most of the good players never go to college.

Bring a couple of Band Aids for all of the scratching and hair pulling that would take place.

Programs don’t need another non revenue sport to support. A kick ball team would draw a bigger crowd.

I think it would be great. I can't speak on the other SEC states, but kids in Georgia are really catching on to soccer, and Texas has had soccer for years. The SEC would be tough for sure!

I played college soccer, lettered in NAIA level in 1963-64 (college soccer started in 1956). Through the years I coached everything from U10 to men’s AAU club including 5 years LA high school. I also reffed for many years. That said….

40 years ago when men’s college soccer in SEC was gaining traction, the lead schools such as South Carolina quickly stared giving scholarships to fully developed foreign players, just like in track and field.

Let’s review National US track and field back in 50-60-70s. It was populated by ex-NCAA T&F which was like a minor league feeder. At that time NCAA T&F was a major college sport…ahead of baseball. Then one day the NCAA limited the number of T&F scholarships and then UTEP decided to give all their scholarships to top international track talent instead of up and coming US high schoolers. Naturally they won championships. Then since winning in the NCAA is everything, other schools followed suit and young US talent was squeezed out, deprived of opportunities…and T&F in college went down in the toilet.

A SEC NCAA men’s soccer program would go the same way…the 4 scholarships allowed would go to to first division top class foreign talent. And who would care…

Soccer is a decent sport on small college campuses. Keep it that way.

I could get down with some legit D1 SEC hockey. I wouldn’t give a shite about soccer though.
