Seeds only matter when placing teams in playoff bowls.

That's why Georgia was 3 and Oklahoma was 2 in 2017 - Georgia was closer to New Orleans than Clemson.

Alabama and Notre Dame will be placed in locations closest to them and the CFP committee doesn't want regular season rematches in the semis.

Georgia played OU in the Rose Bowl in 2017.

Correct. The top seed gets their favored location. Alabama played Clemson in New Orleans that year I believe.

This year Alabama, if the #1, would obviously choose New Orleans again. ND or Clemson would have to head west.

Except for the significant advantage in rest, minimal nagging injuries accumulated over the season, and minimal tape for other teams, especially when they haven't really been challenged to show a lot.

It is a significant advantage and a situation their conference placed them in.

Yes, because as any great will tell you, less experience is how you get good at something.

I expect Ohio State to get in, and then get stomped by Bama or Clemson.

A@m over Clemson is laughable

Doesn't really matter, but A&M's loss is to #1, Clemson's loss is to #2. And #2 doesn't look near as good as #1.

And A&M has a tougher SoS.

I don't know that after six games you can say you're inexperienced especially when you have a pretty veteran team anyway. They haven't been through battles, sure.

However, they also didn't have to play a full schedule or even close to it. History has shown that they can lose to an unexpected opponent. We got evidence on Saturday night that no game is a given.

Football is a game of attrition. They should theoretically be in midseason form right now, and they have a healthy and rested team. Ultimately I think they will be in, but I don't think it's right.

Athens, GA is 70 miles closer to NO than Clemson, SC is. Norman is much closer to Pasadena, CA than Athens is, so that's how they justified making OU the 2 that season.

Don’t bother arguing with him. He’s a super contrarian that has been shilling for OSU for the last week.

Bama
Winner of Notre Dame vs Clemson
Cincinnati if they beat Tulsa
Coastal Carolina if they beat ULL

I think teams should have to win their conference to be in the CFP.
Big 10 and PAC-12 don’t have an undefeated team that has played enough games unless the rest of the conference winners have way worse resumes and aren’t undefeated.

If Cincinnati and Coastal Carolina lose, I would replace them with Ohio State if they win the Big 10 and Notre Dame if they lose to Clemson

Bama
Clemson
Notre Dame
Ohio State

If Clemson beats ND they are both in. ND at this point is locked, as is Alabama. Ohio State I feel only needs to beat Northwestern.

6. Coastal Carolina

I mean I get that its a cool story and all, but Coastal Carolina is not one of the 8 best teams in America.... not even close. They'd lose to at least 8 or 9 SEC teams on a neutral field.

If only some teams could be so lucky that if they could just beat Kansas, BYU, and a bunch of cupcakes they could be ranked in the Top 8.

Kansas' Losses by Margin of Loss
Oklahoma by 53
Kansas State by 41
Oklahoma State by 40
TCU by 36
Baylor by 33
Iowa State by 30
West Virginia by 21
Coastal Carolina by 15
Texas Tech by 3

They were outgained by Kansas 367 to 318. They averaged 5.3 YPP against Kansas. It's the only game this season in which Kansas has outgained their opponent.

Yea - I think it's reasonable to rank them ahead of Iowa State because of the Louisiana loss and them beating Louisiana or whatever, but past that....come on.

If we can say we haven't seen enough to say they're a playoff team because they've played fewer games, we can also say they're less experienced because they've played fewer games.

And didn't most of their defense get drafted last year?

No problem with them getting in at 6-0 with a conference championship when the competition is 7-1 A&M with a blowout loss and a less impressive win. Or Coastal Carolina. Or Cincinnati. Or anyone else I've seen brought up.

After Ohio state wins this weekend I’d put them at number one

Just so everybody whiny arse heads will explode

They are a top four team and two extra games against Maryland and Michigan ain’t gonna change that

All this is, is a bunch of trivial bullshite to come up with a reason for a lesser team to make the tournament frick that

I’d rather see Ohio state play anyone in the playoff than texas aggy or Cincinnati against Clemson

Just stop

People are saying Florida has no chance against Bama, just like people said LSU had no chance against Florida. If Florida has any balls at all as a team, they will come out fighting like hell.

Difference is that Bama doesn’t have an arse-clown as a head coach.

ALABAMA is a lock win or lose in the SECCG.

Let's hope NOTRE DAME wins again so we do not see a two-loss Clemson in the CFP. Dabo says that even a two-loss Clemson deserves to be in. Doofus!.

AGGIES have a potential trap game in Rocky Top, but a win at Tennesee should give the AGGIES a lock.

Only other considerations should be Coastal Carolina and Cincinnati, should they both win this coming weekend. Both have ranked opponents in their title games.

Again, this is all with the notion of not having USC or Ohio State considered, which is the way it should be.

You left out games played! Need match the amount of games played. Key injuries can happen any game. Plus can get beaten by a lesser team like OSU against Purdue a few years ago. Also playing fewer games give OSU advantage and will be well rested. OSU does have better talents. That is one advantage and the other is coaching.

I would like to see Cincy. If they beat Tulsa that will make it 3 top 25 teams they beat this season. Clemson, so far, has only beaten one top 25 team.

Besides if Cincy goes in and loses badly we won't have to worry about G5 team getting the nod in a while. Coastal Carolina continues to be the little engine that could so I can't argue against them too much.

This year San Jose State is 5-0! San Jose State beat Arkansas last year!

Coastal Carolina would win it all. They don’t have a big brand though so no invite.

But UCF does? You complained for years now about UCF got robbed!
