PAC 12 let the California schools keep each other while the other 8 school just did a rotation

& divisions keep 1/2 the conference compared to each other. EASIER way than trying to compare 14 teams to each other.
& a HELL of a lot BETTER to determine the SECCG candidates.

Divisions result in championship game mismatches. IF you got rid of divisions, and just had your top 2 teams in the championship, you'd almost never have a mismatch.

We do this in basketball, and it would work for football. 3 permanent opponents that you play every year, and you rotate the other 10, five in one two year cycle, and the other five in the next. You play all 13 teams home and away in a four year cycle.

The permanent opponents would be something like this (which is basically the basketball pairings, with a few tweaks):

Bama: Auburn, State, UT
Arkansas: Mizzou, A&M, LSU
Auburn: Bama UF, UGA
Florida: Auburn, UGA, USC
UGA: USC, UF, Auburn
Kentucky: Mizzou, UT, MSU
LSU: A&M, Ole Miss, Arkansas
Ole Miss: State, LSU, Vandy
Miss. State: Ole Miss, Bama, UK
Missouri: Arkansas, A&M, UK
South Carolina: UGA, UF, Vandy
Tenn: Vandy, UK, Bama
A&M: LSU, Arkansas, Mizzou
Vandy: UT, Ole Miss, USC

Keeps the 8 game schedule, and allows the schools that play an in-state rival out of conference every year to still do that, and maintain the right number of home games.

I think it’s more so teams can preserve their historic rivals while everyone else can play other schools.

I don’t think the current divisions are set up fairly either but that’s another discussion entirely.

As the thread focuses on cross division games, only two teams have significant history with permanent opponents, why force the others to manufacture their rivalries?

Oh I thought this thread was about permanent opponents and that pertains to football. Carry on. And no one cares about baseball. Unless we are great. Then we love it. If we are good, we hate the team and sport, and coach.

You only have a 12 game season in fb.

As I stated in another post, UGA does NOT consider SC as an opponent, so replace them.

Nor, for the fun part of the the non-div. group...RANK ALL 14 teams to each other with lack of common opponents.

I don't think anyone really cares about them anymore. Some people feel like they have to, some like that they play a particular team every year for reasons other than tradition.

I really don't think Bama fans would boycott a game against UGA because it should be UT.

I say go to 9 game conference schedule, ditch permanent rivals, and swap Auburn and Mizzou in divisions.

& why should 4 teams end historied rivalries due to those who don't have any?

& WHY should they NOT be counted as an SEC game?

Putting Aub. in the east ends either TSIO or IB.

& the SEC WON'T put teams from the same state in diff. divisions.

For State, I'd like 4 only:

AUburn,

LSU,

AlaBama,

&

Mississippi.

All others rotate.

Oh I forgot to add if these old SEC rivals want to play each other so damn bad they can make a date, , ACC style[I don't mean gay sex] everyone has 4 games they can schedule with anyone.

Then dump Mizzou and pick up Duke. Or change the east/west division names to A teams and B teams or something. Mizzou in the east is as dumb as holding on to these overrated rivalries.

Think what would happen if conference expansion didn’t. 10 teams, 9 games(all legit) 3 ooc. I’d think the SEC would still be all gravy

Alabama/Georgia - every year
Auburn/Florida - every year
LSU/Georgia - every year

Frick, that'd be great
