Well, first they sent the natives on down the Trail of Tears.

But in fairness to the rednecks, I don't think they are the ones making news for capital murder and whatnot.

T-shirts in poor taste and generally trashy behavior, sure.

Drinking and cussing and shooting out your own TV ain't hurting nobody save the next generation they spawn.

Just watch Idiocracy and it will all make sense.

Or Atlanta ……..It used to be fairly safe.

When I was in my 20’s, my friends and I would go there to ride the Marta tripping ( not condoning) just to see the freaks that come out at night. Or would go to Blind Willies for a good time. Hell we saw many concerts ; Metallica , Ozzy , GunsNRoses , Motley Crue. It’s not the same. It was rough then but now. No thanks

Blind Willies and Atkins is still a good time - well, it was 10 years ago or on the random 2-3 nights a year that I still go down that way and act like a 25 year old again.

Ponce ain't the same anymore, though.

There’s actually a big difference. As a former prosecutor that prosecuted in DeKalb County, I can say that if someone breaks into your house while you are on vacation, and they are caught because you have cameras in your house, that person will be prosecuted in DeKalb Superior Court (downtown Decatur) because burglary is a felony. They will not be prosecuted in Brookhaven or Dunwoody municipal courts. And because DeKalb County is by far the most lenient County in Georgia when it comes to crime (even more so than Clayton), they won’t go to prison when convicted. The Judge will give them probation. If you’re prosecuted for burglary in Cobb or Fulton, you’ll go to prison if convicted. DeKalb County is the most unsafe county in Georgia.

"We’ve always been a state full of drunken rednecks who just so happen to have the greatest college football program of all time"

And that's the most important thing, right?

This was around 30 years for me since I’ve partaken of the night life there. My cousin’s dad was the DJ for the Cheetah 3 so we got all the concert tickets/lap dances we wanted.

If you point is that DeKalb County as a whole is different and worse, then you are absolutely correct. There is no debate there. The people that live in NW DeKalb don't run this county, as all know.

The idea that the people you come across regularly in Northwest DeKalb (Dunwoody was the example used) are any different than the folks in East Cobb, Sandy Springs, etc is the part that is silly.

1. The people are more liberal, although marginally.
2. DeKalb is the least safe County in Georgia.

I don't know the specific stats but that would not shock me. Most everything south of Memorial Drive (or West of 285), even with all the movement to East Atlanta/Kirkwood/Edgewood in the last 15 years, is not the sort of place that supplies much comfort in your safety.

I’m saying it’s the least safe county because of the DeKalb Judges’ indifference to major crimes.

I absolutely agree with you re: the leniency towards crime in the County, but it would still be a dangerous place even without it due to the poverty that exists in a large swath of it.

Lots of things many states are better than Alabama at, but college football is not one of them.

Have you been to San Francisco lately? Like in the past 5 years? I assure you Dunwoody is not that bad.
