Nutt must've had beef with the arkansas brass or something. In all honesty I do see ole miss as a lateral move. Definitely not a "moving up in the world" job compared to arkansas. How could you??

I don't see Ole Siss as a step down, either.

Nutt was basically canned by Arkie when we took him.

And we balled his first year at Ole Miss after he lost a couple of early season games. We were fooled obviously, but I don't think you came blame us for being blinded.
He definitely excelled with Orgeron's talent. Once that well ran dry he was exposed as the hapless idiot he was.
If he gave half a shite about recruiting he might have lasted a little longer.

rr,
I observed his laziness in recruiting & pointed it out to my Reb friends...
He was used to recruiting ArKansas, where he got 1st pick by default...

Yes and two quality wins. One against a really good Tex Tech team that was ranked very high.

I wanted to keep coach O for one more year since he finally had a halfway decent QB. I was pissed when they hired Nutt because I thought it was a cop out. I'm so glad that Pete Boone is no longer our AD.

They would've won the SEC in 08 with a better hc.

He was very lazy in recruiting, and he said himself that he didn't really worry that much about MSU because they had always beaten them when he was at Arky, and well, they were coached by Croom. Then Mullen comes in and that loss at the end of 2009 was the beginning of Nutt's end. He had been lazy and unlike at Arkansas, he had another SEC school to fight with over recruits. I'm sure in hindsight he'd done a few things differently.

He should have never been hired at Arkansas or Ole Miss. We foolishly removed the reigns from our AD, who wanted to hire Tuberville. It's also been rumored that former Arkansas assistant, Pete Carroll, had expressed interest in the job, but the hiring committee selected Nutt, because he was homegrown.

Well the first two years were awesome. Then all of his recruits either didn't qualify, transferred or got kicked off the team. Then he stopped coaching and recruiting altogether and in two seasons he nearly destroyed our program. Thankfully our administration wasn't as blind as Arkansas' and got him the hell out of there.
I honestly think part of the reason he stopped giving a frick was because Boone (our AD at the time) promised him all kinds of things and when it became clear he wasn't going to get any of the things he was promised, he shut it down and let the program burn.

I shall now, if you will pardon the phrase, give you Nutt in the half shell.
He is an overly cautious coach except when he thinks he has to be bold. Now, when he is going all out HDN has the chops to make some noise. No, seriously, when he has to step out of his comfort zone Nutt can coach with the best of them.
Unfortunately its either all the way on, or all the way off. More often then not it was all the way off.
At Arkansas he had two things that kept him in play. One, he had deep ties (which he worked to the bone) with Little Rock boosters. Two, dropped in like mana from the heavens Matt Jones signed.
Jones was not an elite QB, but he was an elite athlete, and his instinct of "well crap I'd best make something happen" saved Nutt's bacon.
At Arkansas what really did him in was when he was handed a gold star recruiting class on a silver platter and threw it away. Auburn fans will note he also tossed Gus on the Bus as well at the end of that year.
When he went to Ole Miss he had two good years and then he reverted to form. He didn't have the boosters to keep him alive and he didn't have the dumb decisions eraser that was a Matt Jones or DMac.
Frankly Beaver Face... err... Freeze... is a better choice for Ole Miss.
