Saban disagrees. He was able to hold onto him when tu tired to make him one of the highest paid assistants in football. He tried all day today to retain him today but Wiggins didn’t give Bama a chance to match.

I don't think that was the case but I was openly musing whether he had outlived his effectiveness as a WR coach at Alabama in the postmortem analysis from the Rose Bowl. His evals on WR prospects have been loaded up with busts lately. He inherited the God Mode WR room (Smith, Juedy, Ruggs, and Waddle). Metchie is basically the only high school WR commit in his tenure that has finished his career at Alabama as a highly productive receiver. The entire 2020 and 2021 WR classes busted out and transferred. The story is in progress on the 2022 and 2023 WR classes: Bond (seems positive), Prentice (less so), Hale, and Law. Milroe really needed that bonafide 1st round grade NFL receiver to be a security blanket much like what Cooper was for our last utterly deficient QB (Blake Sims). That guy didn't exist partly due to Wiggins missing in eval or failing to develop them once they arrived.

When you've had half a decade of Dameyune Craig there's only one direction to move on the development attribute

You could do a lot worse.

Each coach has a track record of winning or recruiting in the SEC.

I give it a B+. I think we could have done better at DC.

I don't feel like our receivers were a weak spot this season. If anything, they didn't get nearly enough opportunities to shine.

I like Elko’s staff a lot with the possible exception of DC. Upgrades at many of the positions, especially from a teaching standpoint. Not much of a drop off in recruiting prowess either.

Anyone is better than Craig

Doesn't help they don't have a QB

WRs were not good in 2022 with a Heisman Trophy winner. They lacked the ability to get early separation consistently, so Alabama had to run more deep overs and similar long developing crossing routes to let them just out-athlete many DBs they played.

I don't think Saban pushed him out. He was one of Saban's best primary recruiters. With that said, if the recruiting game is going to be about NIL bags then maybe it is better to let the money talk and focus on good coaching from the staff.

We tried to warn y’all.

Phenomenal recruiter, not good in the developmental department.

Part of how Saban is slipping. Too soft and not demanding enough of quality coaching hires.

Wonder what Ryan Williams Jr thinks?

Better hope he isn't super tight with Wiggins because Wiggins now has oil frickers on his side. The oil fricker money beats yellafella money.

That's the reason right?

What is his connection to Elko/A&M?

No idea. Haven’t looked into it much. Just skimmed a few reports.

It’s highly doubtful TAMU enters the fold at this point.

Wiggins is a bad coach. Our WRs look pedestrian yet we sign the best ones on an annual basis. How Washington get better WRs than Bama? It ain't happenstance. It's coaching and player development.

You’re an idiot. This the first year in many years we haven’t had a stud or studs at WR. Bama is arguably WRU.

Off the top of my head, some Bama WRs under Saban who are killing it in the NFL.

Julio Jones - 1st round pick
Amari Cooper - Biletnikoff winner, 1st round pick
Calvin Ridley - 1st round pick
Jerry Jeudy - Belitnikoff winner, 1st round pick
Devonta Smith - Heisman, 1st round pick
Jalen Waddle - 1st round pick
John Metchie - 2nd round pick
Jameson Williams - 1st round pick

Also others a few steps behind that group…
DeAndrew White
Kevin Norwood
Ardarius Stewart
Henry Ruggs III

Only connection seems to be that Trooper Taylor was his position coach for a year in college.

ETA - He was assistant head coach and receivers coach at Alabama, Taylor is already AHC so it looks like Wiggins may be receivers and co offensive coordinator.

I rarely agree with you, but you are correct here. I think Saban is just getting tired of having to constantly replace good assistants, so he sometimes keeps the ones no one else wants a little too long
