I rarely agree with you, but you are correct here. I think Saban is just getting tired of having to constantly replace good assistants, so he sometimes keeps the ones no one else wants a little too long

Yeah, but literally someone trying to win in the SEC wanted him and gave him a promotion in title to land him...

Sark took his shots at him, other programs too, but he jumped to A&M with no known connection. He probably didn’t get along with Rees. Who knows. Everything is a possibility. Some Bama fans are acting like he was pushed out, so A&M is now screwed. I don’t believe that.

That's debatable. "Assistant Head Coach of Offense" is pretty close to "Co-OC".

quote:

Wiggins has been Alabama's receivers coach since 2019, and since 2021 has held the additional title of "assistant head coach of offense." With Alabama's current and previous offensive coordinators Tommy Rees and Bill O'Brien coaching from the booth, Wiggins has worked closely with the offense on the field during games.

A native of Los Angeles, Wiggins has been part of Alabama's recruiting efforts on the West Coast -- which included landing five-star quarterback Julian Sayin plus four-star defensive backs Zabien Brown and Peyton Woodyard from California in the 2024 high school class. Wiggins ranks second in 247 Sports' Recruiter rankings for 2024 behind former Georgia assistant Fran Brown, now the head coach at Syracuse.

"Holmon is a great person, does a really good job of developing these players," Nick Saban said in 2022. "He's had some great players play for him since he's been here. But he's done a really good job of developing those guys. They work hard for him. I think they trust and believe in him. He's a great family guy. He's got, like, six kids. Great family. His wife does a wonderful job of helping us recruit. He's a good recruiter. I can't say enough good things about him."

Wiggins received a one-year contract extension last offseason through 2024, increasing his pay to $875,000 annually -- second-most among Alabama's position coaches.

I am not high on him based on his accomplishments here lately. It says something when the man either missed the eval or lost the confidence in two whole recruiting classes of wide receivers. He can be credited with a ton of production but he inherited most of the producers or received them from another top coaching staff. He has not done very well with most of his HS signees since he arrived in Tuscaloosa.

But he is a truly elite recruiter. The area you put him on will be locked down and you won't have to be concerned if he's the right primary on a desirable prospect. He seals the deal for the most part.

Definite upgrade from Craig. And it looks like A&M is going to run a wide open, multiple offense with Klein. Love the offensive staff hires.

Should get some nice portal help at DB and WR these next few weeks

I wouldn’t be shocked if Freeze is telling recruits on the trail Saban is retiring soon.

More like 12 steps behind.

I don't know if Bama was about to fire him, but I do know if Saban wanted to keep him he would still be in Tuscaloosa.

Saban tried to match, and Wiggins wasn’t interested. So no, not really …

Maybe coaches are getting tired of working with coaches like Saban that are borderline abusive

Asst. HC is less valuable for becoming an actual HC than having coordinator in his title. I don't have the list beside me but it felt like asst. HC in the Saban regime was usually an honorific given to a coach who was valuable as a recruiter but wouldn't be trusted with coordinating anything besides special teams.

Saban was never going to offer him the OC role and coordinator experience (with success) is practically a prereq for becoming a head coach. It's simple as that.

I think Demeyune Craig was A&M's WR coach the past few years. Surely, Wiggins can't be worse.

Kinda hard to be a WR when your qb can’t read a defense
