Here's the dirty secret: The SEC really isn't that strong this year. The East Division is OK at the top with Georgia and South Carolina. The rest of the division is a combined 20-24.
The SEC West isn't even that good beyond the top three. Auburn, Mississippi State and Mississippi are a combined 14-19.
The SEC has a stranglehold, though, because no one else has stepped up in the clutch.

Apparently unless all 12 of your teams are in the top 25 you arent that good.

there is dropoff after LSU Bama, then a bigger gap between Ark and UGA, then a huge gap below that. the good teams have benefited.

well...I agree. It's really top heavy this year.

The SEC is still better than the Pac-12.

When you have the top two or three teams in the country, it should be easy to understand why there is a drop off with the other teams.
Some people were saying the same thing last year. Look what happened in the bowl games with the fourth and fifth place SECW teams.
What would middle of the pack teams(UCLA,WF,Iowa,Washington, etc.) be if they played in the SECW? Playing against LSU,Bama,ARK,MSU,au, and throw in a game or two against GA and USC.

And yet, probably MNC, #6 in a row.

Of course the MSU, Ole Miss, and Aub will have bad records. That has to happen for the other teams in a division to have the records of LSU, ALA, Ark

Don't lump us in with the Mississippi schools! We have half those wins and only a fifth of those losses

Exactly, the worst we'll finish in the league is .500

You know you're in a strong conference when critics look at the bottom teams rather than the top.

Using W-L records to determine how "good" a conference is?
let us suppose that ALL 12 teams were exact clones of LSU / Bama.
I would expect that each team would be very close to 4-4 in the conference.
So, by that logic, one could say "The SEC sucks...they do not have a single team with fewer than 4 losses."

This is true. Those schools all have another 3 losses, from the #1,2,3 teams in the BCS. So, their records look bad, but you can say those are all quality losses. (This is assuming Auburn loses to Bama this weekend too)

This was funny:
So half the division isn't that good, but the other half is ranked 1,2,3. Yeah..the west sucks! I guess you need to have 2/3 of your division be good for it to get props.

Isn't that strong?... obviously the bottom half of the league is weak -- who's isn't?... but the top five of LSU, Bama, Ark, UGA, and SCe are better than anyone elses.

Come on guys. There is a lot of truth to this. KY, Van, Ole'Miss and Florida are just pitiful. MS State, AUB and Tenn are a little better. S.Car is a little better than that. After that is the top heavy GA, ARK, then LSU and Bama. I wouldn't roll any of the lower teams out as representatives of SEC football.

Yea if you remove the top 3 teams in the country, the SEC is no better than the Big 10
.
