The majority of states have legislated it. You are correct about Florida though, they do not.
List of States Requiring Deescalation
Many law enforcement agencies, even in states that do not legislate it, believe it is safer for citizens and officers to deescalate a situation. Once a fight breaks out, anything can happen.
What Works in Deescalation Training
Some tactics to deescalate a situation.
For Safer Scenes and Greater Support, Practice Deescalation
There are a LOT of points made in this link that apply in this situation.
As this thread shows, not everyone likes seeing cops beat the hell out of people. It is better and safer for officers and departments not to have videos like this end up on the internet.

What this thread shows is some people will defend anything.
The cops were there to remove the guy not deescalate. He refused to leave. He made multiple threats, then he resisted arrest.
When black guys get killed for that dumb shite you guys see nothing wrong with it but when it's a 'good ol baw' you want to defend his right to be a piece of shite.

And some tits downvoted me for saying not to litigate your case in the street with the police. Well, he did more than litigate, and he lost.

This is the main problem. People are pussies and can't stomach someone being punished. Parents don't punish their kids when they are bad and people grow up with no respect for authority. When you are among 80,000 people, they don't have the fricking time to sit there and listen to everyone's story about who started it and who didn't.
Do what the cops tell you to do or hopefully they kick the living shite out of you. No matter what your skin color.

Hey dumbass it wasn't the cops job to do that.
The stadium employees already asked the guy to leave and he wouldn't. He had already been ejected. If stadium employees eject you.. you have to leave. Period.
The cops were there to MAKE him leave because he REFUSED to leave when asked.
The people defending this a-hole must see themselves in him or something
It should ALWAYS be the job of ANY public servant to avoid escalating a situation. Always. I would bet that some kind of document exists which states, unequivocally, that an usher (or security guard or stadium official) can eject a patron at their discretion. That document is no doubt tied to some sort of agreement when you purchase a ticket. That is fair enough....I am sure some sort of precedent or contract exists. Obviously when said patron ignores the usher they have no choice but to involve the police. Again, fair enough. The goal at this point should be for the police to liimit the impact on OTHER patrons and to get the ejected patron out of the stadium as safely as possible....wrestling and fighting in a row of stadium seats is a good way for the cop to get hurt. There are many ways to accomplish this...one is to do what this cop did, charge up the stairs and tell him he has to go and when he refuses get into a fight with him. Not bright but effective. Another way would be to ask the man to leave, when he refused tell him he has no choice and simply wait until the patron makes a move. Chances are pretty good that outside of a complete lunatic the patron will eventually leave of their own accord and save everyone a lot of trouble and not expose the cops to any more risk than walking up and down the stairs. Time is a fantastic balm for emotions....eventually the pressure from the other patrons, whose game experience is being negatively impacted, will come into play and when the a-hole realizes that even his kids want his gone he would, most likely leave. It is also not a bad idea to get more cops involved....the more there the less likely it is that a fight breaks out. The problem is that cops are a hammer and everyone is a nail and there is only one thing hammers and nails do together.
What is truly amazing is how often cops fail to not escalate. It is their universal go to move. It makes their job infinitely more dangerous and difficult but it is, apparently, all they know.

you ever considered paragraphs ?

Yeah when they could have chosen to wave their fricking magic wand and make everyone comply. How stupid of them.
You realize that almost everyone they have to deal with are heavily drinking, and you want them to stand there and reason with them for how long exactly? A drunk can talk bullshite for hours and make no sense, while these officers could be needed elsewhere.
Should he ask them to come with him once, twice, five times, maybe 10 times? What is the amount of time they should waste talking to people who are not reasonable?
In my opinion, you should have about 10 fricking seconds max to comply or it's go time brother. I am sorry their mama's didn't give them any home training, but we don't have time for that now.

He deserved the beat down imo. Why can't you just cooperate? Do as they say and you will have your time to plead your case

The usher telling the man to leave was the final word.
And a hammer was needed for this nail.
I swear to God, some of you people are like 5-year-olds yelling, "I don't wanna, you can't make me."
There certainly can be overreaches, but the bottom line is that people in authority if they aren't violating stated policies for entering a public business or attending a public event (which is a privilege and not a right); the laws of a municipality, state or the country; or the U.S. Constitution have the right to compel you to do that which you do not want to do, and prohibit you from doing that which you want to do.
And this doofus had pretty much shown he was in super "I don't wanna, you can't make me" mode and wasn't going to cooperate.

It’s that I’m special nonsense that has all but ruined this country. The idea that I can act any way I want without repercussions is why situations like that idiot mouthing off end like that.
I miss when people were expected to be thinking animals.

Georgia fans are complete idiot douchebags who claim zero accountability for anything. They also claimed deer were the cause for the Jalen Carter crash that killed two. They also claimed the AJC is the reason so many guys have been arrested. The fans take after Kirby

It's surprising to see so many in here defend the fan.
I'll just say it.
If this video were of a black guy acting this way at a gas station after being asked to leave by the manager, a lot of defenders would be saying different things.

in 2024 most people have bene conditioned by the media and society to hate the police. I'm not surprised in the slightest that immediately after these videos came out (like on Saturday night) people were on the fans sides. And I mean honestly...watching it then the cops DID seem very excessive and out of line. But we didn't have any other information to go on. Now we do.

Right. As I pointed out in that thread, we clearly didn’t know the full story from a video that wasn’t even a minute long. That’s the whole point: anyone who went all Karen, like you did, emotionally calling for the cops’ heads from an incomplete snapshot is clearly a person who is not governed by rational thought. Your emotions control your responses and your entire world view as they do in women. It’s clear as day.
