Ohhhh, the irony here.

Or, we could call it the Trumpeting of the Big Ten. It was just two weeks ago that Trump, desperate to win votes in Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania, told the conference to play football. Originally, the league stood its ground. Rutgers president Jonathan Holloway aptly called it “cheap politics.” But wouldn’t you know, the university presidents ended up following right along, giving Trump exactly what he wanted.

For decades, the Big Ten has thought of itself as a different kind of sports conference, one that proudly touts the academic achievements and Great Lakes values of its like-minded, highly-regarded, internationally-ranked research institutions. The Big Ten wasn’t the SEC; it wasn’t the Big 12. It was better than that, and it was happy to tell you all about it.

I swear they are such a bunch of snobs. Absolutely no self-awareness.

Opinion: Big Ten's decision to play football signals darkest day in conference's rich history

Christine Brennan, USA TODAY

Poor Dan, I'm sure he's heartbroken Christine Brennan was able to get her virtue signaling article on this topic published first at USA Today. But without looking, I'd put the odds at 1000000/1 he's already retweeted it

The Big 10, of all conferences, has no room, as many here have said, to cast shade on other conferences.

If anything the Big 10, in last decade or so, has been the poster boy of an out of control college conference turning a blind eye to horrible things. They make the SWC back in the "wild west" days look like saints.

"We hold ourselves to a higher moral standard! Unless, you know, you know, you count the Ohio State wrestling coach who ignored sexual issues with his program and then got elected to Congress. Or the rapes at Michigan State. Or Penn State. Or..."

The list of shite the Big 10 has covered up in the last two decades is frankly staggering. If they weren't "The Big 10" the NCAA might have put the entire conference, in every sport, on probation.

There is no fricking data anywhere that says this is going to do anything to 99.99% of these kids that do catch it

The odds are even more remote. Of all the college kids that have contracted COVID thus far, there haven't been any reported hospitalizations. And we're worried about competitive athletes that are even less likely to have issues that your run of the mill, unhealthy college student? If the odds of a normal person having serious problems are less than 1%, the odds a student athlete will have issues is probably .00001%. I've only seen a couple of reports of athletes worldwide who have had serious problems. One was a former olympic swimmer Joe Rogan talked about on his show. The other was a guy who played basketball overseas (former FSU player) that had pneumonia first, then got COVID, then played against doctor's advice due to concerns of myocarditis and died as a result. With the testing protocols in place with this P5 football teams, no one is going to get sick and die, and the players can opt-out without affecting their eligibility and without losing a scholarship so what exactly are we risking here? I'm so sick and tired of the fear mongering over COVID

This X 1000. Liberals always seem to come unglued and overplay their hand, don't they? They have to demonize anything and anyone that doesn't agree with their view.

Finally, shroud falls and world discovers that B1G is just a 'sports' conference that is trying to catch up to the SEC.

They are a 'true' little brother trying real hard to look like the SEC.
