Some of these ESPN personalities are essentially suggesting that college football should be shut down for multiple seasons, because “we don’t know the long term impacts of Covid-19”. And then turn around and state that since college athletes are not paid, it is risking their future potential to earn.

Let me get this right, if these young men play football they are going to get covid-19 and if they don't and stay home and hang out with their friends there is absolutely no chance they get it.
