It likely costs a shot at #1 and almost certainly placement in a region with Duke as their #2. They’d have to beat Tennessee twice to make up for it and not lose another game (which I doubt happens). Also possibly gets them sent out West.
The margin of error was too thin to drop this one.

Potentially losing a #1 seed doesn’t even come close to actually missing out on going to the super bowl. It’s not even close.
