If you have, then you know college football is an afterthought. USC /UCLA fans will regret abandoning their traditional rivals and peers. Why? How for instance is even a middle class kid from Thousand Oaks, going to get out of class and drive or fly to Ann Arbor. They don’t travel well now! The older money crowd will certainly enjoy getting on their private Citations and jetting off for a grand weekend in Rutgers.

This is a bad move in so many ways. I hope Sankey doesn’t knee jerk and add Clemson, FSU or Miami or North Carolina.

We need Texas and Oklahoma to come on board and get acclimated too the conference. Texas and OU are Wayyy more influential eyeball wise than USC/UCLA.

I see the Big 10:move a desperate one. I say sit back, take some deep breaths and let all this play out.

This is a reaction to the SEC adding two new schools in addition to UT and OU. They had no choice but to join big 10.

excellent post sir

the old tried and true mantra of real estate is "location, location, location" and now we've got (I don't know how to characterize these people) idiots saying proximity doesn't matter

SEC Network is in North Carolina. I bet that’s the target.

OP agreed. futbol is much more popular than football in California as well as the northeast US. SEC does not need to add anybody.

USC and UCLA are both still top brands in college football. That’s all that matters

SC football peaked with Pete. UCLA football peaked in the 60's. Like Michigan they are just a brand to far removed from being a power team. Like the Vols are getting to be, but the 90's may have been the last of them. Who would have guessed that in say 96'?

None of this has anything to do with how your team has been lately. The SEC didn’t add Texas because of their stellar on the field playing the last few years. It’s about how big your brand is. USC and UCLA, hell Michigan and Tennessee for that matter too, are both top 25 college football brands

I dunno, a generation ago I would agree 100% on brands but now it is all being run by kids with short attentions, greed $$$, and self interest. 5 years is the new 25 years in the under 30 set. I hope I am wrong but I have the sad feeling I am not.

As a USC graduate, born and raised here, I agree with you on this point.

Out here, college football is just another tourist attraction. However, USC is the lone exception to the sport of football and its attitude that's so prevalent here in the West. USC's fanaticism and following is just as intense and serious as it is in the SEC.

When it comes to the long distance travel to rival games, that is going to be a hurdle, no doubt. USC's alumni base is very wealthy and so are its supporters so they'll have no problem traveling. But, for the average Joe Student/Fan, it's a problem.

USC didn't want to have to leave the Pac-12; however, the Pac-12 Conference did NOTHING to support its members, especially the one school the pulls the entire conference -- USC.

USC has seriously considered going independent. But, FOX Sports helped push USC toward the Big 10, instead, and they are the main catalyst behind this move. USC is responsible for UCLA being included in the move and insisted on them getting an invite from the Big 10, too.

USC had to do this for its own benefit. The Pac-12 was doing NOTHING and you can pin this on Larry Scott, the Commissioner.

This move by USC/UCLA is potentially bigger than OU & Texas coming into the SEC and the move has absolutely energized the Trojan faithful and football program. It's GUNG HO all the way, now.

Since tv isn’t king and streaming is….regional rivalries will push views more.

While wvu is playing Texas tech and not Pitt, no one will care.

The kids still hear the elders talk about the backyard brawl.

Sorry Jetdog. I’ve spent quite a bit of time in LA over the last few years. Once the NCAA vacated the USC’s national championship, the USC caps and jerseys started disappearing. I’ve been to USC games vs Stanford and Texas: nothing near the emotional engagement of SEC games.

I'm not sure where here in L.A. you hang out, but our caps & jerseys are still pretty much out there...perhaps not in the great numbers back in Carroll's days here, but they're still out there quite a bit.

Our attendance has dropped since Carroll, but right now, USC is stoked about this move to the Big 10. STOKED! Having Lincoln Riley as our new HC has caused our recruiting to catch fire.

There is no other school in the nation that has a greater NIL potential than...USC! Los Angeles, Hollywood, television, film, the best climate with beaches and mountains....no other market in the country, including New York City, has the NIL potential as Los Angeles and, therefore, USC.

There is a ton of talent in California still. I’m guessing that people, like football out there. The pac ten was just a crap league

Plus they won’t only teams from the west coast in the big ten

IMO, none of this realignment stuff is going to matter in the next 10 years or so. College football is going the route of college basketball where the regular season won't really matter except for a few regional rivalries here and there. I see CFB inevitably moving towards a 16-team playoff with ESPN pulling all the strings to make it into some sort of "December Madness" Tournament money-making thing. Maybe something like 5 SEC teams, 5 Big10 teams, 2 Pac/WAC teams, 2 ACC/Conf USA teams, 1 Independent/At-large, and 1 HBCU (for woke purposes) with some sort of At-large/Indep/HBCU play-in game (more wokeness) for good mea$ure. College football as we know it is coming to an end and ESPN will see to it. Just watch ...

No one has given a shite about UCLA football in many decades

Except ESPN. They always act like they are relevant

Nothing like arkansas fans making fun of other teams not being relevant for decades.

That’s some irony. I don’t even know if most country knows arkansas is a state let alone has a college football team

This seems a bit disingenuous, as everybody knows of Walmart and it is HQ'd in Arkansas.
