I keep seeing articles where they talk about Malzahn won 2/3 of his games like Auburn is making a mistake getting rid of him.
The dude was a dead man walking. Had not sniffed a division title since 2017, recruiting was awful, gets beaten by UGA and LSU every year and only got lucky against Bama once in a while. Why wouldn't they get rid of him?

And these people make a living doing this.
Just more evidence that modern journalisming has less to do with facts, insight, and dispassionate analysis than it does outrage and clicks.
I can’t imagine a less respected “profession” these days.

Great post. Bama is great and all. Dynasty as frick. But a fighters chance of beating Bama in the odd numbered years isn’t enough to keep his job.
Gus had a bunch of mistakes. Not getting wins against Georgia when they were down. Not winning one single road game against a rival. Not beating Tennessee in 2018. Pathetic 2nd halves against LSU. Putting all the eggs in one basket with QB recruiting, and lastly failing to adapt his offense through the years. His record should’ve been better and that would’ve given him more support, but really, he didn’t help himself out.

I agree with you. Although I see where they are coming from, when you make $7.5 million, you have to be better than mediocre.
The worst is Dan Wolken. He wrote an article the other day basically saying that firing Malzahn was the wrong move because Auburn shouldn't be good at football anyway.

Sportswriters aren't disingenuous. They're absolutely useless. Much like the sports they cover, they have no real value and contribute little if anything to society. A wino standing on the corner cleaning windshields for some change has more value. By the way....frick Auburn.

I agree with this. When I (rarely) watch those post-game Zoom calls with the writers, I just cringe. My 10 year old could ask better questions.

Overall record is great.
Look at the wins and losses the past 3 years.
Trends are more important than what someone did 4+ years ago.

1. 0-12 at LSU, Georgia and Bama. At some point top 5 money should travel better.
2. Getting blown out multiple times. At some point top 5 money should compete for four quarters. Several of Gus’s losses were 3 score or more blowouts.
3. Being able to man up at the line of scrimmage. We are getting our poop pushed in upfront on both sides of the ball. Recruiting matters upfront more than anywhere else. Player development matters upfront more than anywhere else. It has not happened under Gus. Who got better?

Not intending to be critical, but how can you have such bad OLs for three years. Bo prolly receives too much criticism for happy feet, he's running for his life as soon as he gets the snap.

Again, this was ignored when Auburn was getting lucky wins. It was all good. frickin dumbasses didn't take the time to realize that was never going to continue. Hence, those massive asskickings you mentioned above.
