Ole Miss-Mizzou for the SEC title. I’m here for it.

Yo, jrv2damac:

Yes, a great many people who know the SEC refer to Miss. State as 'State.' Why does someone from Kansas even give a ****?

Yes. I hate it when people say LSU personally.

I am not an LSU fan. I am a Louisiana State fan.

I lived in Louisiana for thirty years--in Baton Rouge and New Orleans--and I never met anyone who said Louisiana State. They all said: ELL-ESS-YOO!

That’s different though. State and Mississippi State are both used. You won’t get weird looks if you say Mississippi State.

But no one calls Ole Miss “Mississippi.” I didn’t even know Ole Miss meant University of Mississippi when I was a kid. I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone refer to Ole Miss as Mississippi (football wise at least but maybe even outside of that).

Kansas guy is wrong.

Not in football. We’re just now starting to get hype. Disappointment is still a new phenomenon.

That 2010 team had a healthy Knile Davis, something Ole Miss doesn't have.

Ole Miss football teams with preseason expectations have historically sh!t the bed. They don’t have the culture to take everyone’s best shot all season long.

Lane will be the petulant little brat he is on 4th downs and drop the big ones.

Man this is a pretty fascinating thread...I have some friends that are Ole miss grads and I'm gonna do a lil social experiment and start calling it Old Mississippi when I'm around them to see their reactions...if I had any Mississippi State friends I'd try calling it New Mississippi.

That is one of the things I am most proud of about my youth.

I not only knew "Ole Miss" was a nickname for the University of Mississippi.... but I also knew that you didn't dare call it "Old Miss".

This didn't really happen at all last season, but go ahead and keep mouthing off.

Ole Miss will probably be ranked #1 heading into Baton Rouge. Should be fun.

Ole Miss was pretty fricking loaded in 2009 and we blew it. They let the hype eat them up.

We started the season preseason top 10...ranked #4 and played at South Carolina. Got their dick kicked in.

We are playing at South Carolina again this year as a top 10 contender. Lets hope history does not repeat itself with an epic sandstorm on Oct 5 in Williams-Brice Stadium
