To me it lost credibility when they gave it to archie griffin twice.

The Heisman House commercials are funny, especially the first one with Bo, but other than that I don’t pay too much attention to it.

Florida voters did precisely that in 2007 for their system QB.

Chris Weinke won the award in 2000 when he was 28 years old.

The award lost its luster when the Downtown Athletic Club folded. Now it is managed by the Heilman Trophy Trust and is more of a pure popularity contest ...complete with corporate sponsorship, etc.

One quick fix would be to wait until the season is over. It would probably skew the results to the national champion and/or someone who put up big stats in a bowl game. How often has a Heisman winner gotten exposed in a bowl game though? Without looking at evidence, my recollection is that it happens a lot.

Giving Peyton the Heisman would have made his choke job against Nebraska in the Orange Bowl look even worse than it already did. Ahman Green, not even being invited to New York, took that game personally.

I was at that game.
1. Peyton was hurt. Really hurt.
2. I don't know what Peyton had to do with stopping Nebraska's run game. Our defense lost that game. Not Peyton.

Over the last 10 years or so. They just give it to someone average some years (compared to the great that have won it) just because they have to give it out. Aside from Cam, Tebow, and JFF none of the winners will be remembered outside their schools in 20 years.

I still think they should vote and have to have a certain percentage of the votes to get it or not give it out that year.

Let's elevate the Bednarik Award (defensive player of the year) to Heisman status and admit that the Heisman isn't for the best "player" of anything.

Let’s face it, it’s a joke and a or stunt

Johnny football put up video game numbers on sec defenses

But they still almost gave it to a player who was even 5th best in the nation at his position because he fabricated a story about an imaginary girlfriend dying of cancer and then told everyone she died

Basically the SEC got stiffed for the first 50 years and still has few relative winners compared to other power schools across the USA

Negative, Ghostrider....Frank Sinkwich of UGA won the SEC's first Heisman only 7 years into the award's existence.

I stopped giving a shite about the Heisman when Peyton Manning didnt' win it. It is a completely arbitrary popularity contest.

It sucks because u have to play for a team that is in the College champ.! It is not the best player, but the best player on the best team!

Used to be that all we had was the Heisman and Lombardi Trophies. Now, we have...the Maxwell, Walter Camp, Doak Walker, Outland, Nagurski, Butkus, and on and on until now we have 18 awards given each year

What?

Outland and Maxwell do not belong on that list. And some of the others have been around since the 80's or 90's. Sorry you are old.
