Does having the so-called "Big Six" around breed divisiveness within our conference? Perhaps it is time to either de-emphasize the Big Six or simply open it up to other possible members. At present, to be a member, you need:

a) at least 6 SEC division titles (note: Arkansas is currently next in line with 4);
b) at least 8 SEC titles (note: Ole Miss is currently next in line with 6);
c) at least 1 national title awarded by the major selectors (AP Poll, Coaches Poll, BCS), while representing the SEC (note: no non-Big Six school currently has any...this definition is kind of too strict, in my opinion).

I propose that a compromise around this be reached based off of a theoretical point system. In other words, if a team wins an SEC division title, they are awarded 1 point, an SEC title is 2 points, and a major-selector natty is 3 points. The compromise could be that if a team scores 20 points or more in any combination of the above, then they would still have worthy enough accomplishments to be allowed to join. For comparative purposes, under this point system, the Big Six currently ranks as follows:

88 points - Alabama (10 SEC West titles, 24 SEC titles, 10 NCs)
39 points - LSU (8 SEC West titles, 11 SEC titles, 3 NCs)
38 points - Tennessee (6 SEC East titles, 13 SEC titles, 2 NCs)
37 points - Florida (12 SEC East titles, 8 SEC titles, 3 NCs)
34 points - Georgia (7 SEC East titles, 12 SEC titles, 1 NC)
30 points - Auburn (8 SEC West titles, 8 SEC titles, 2 NCs)

Alabama and LSU are the reasons why the SEC is considered the best conference in CFB. The rest of the teams in the conference are flukes or pan flashes.

Get on our level.

Ga. Tech would be #7 & they left the SEC in the 60's...

Looks about right. And it will only widen as Florida is righting their ship, Ga is as good as always.

I doubt any of the little brothers get on the board in any significant manner any time soon.

Yeah it was LSU that shut up the Big 10 haters who thought there should be a Michigan Ohio State rematch for the National tit...no wait that was Florida, you know the school with as many wins in Atlanta as LSU and Bama... Combined.

You say that like it's a bug.

I consider it a feature.

So the same six teams that we already know as the Big Six.

Alrighty then.

Not since we've been in this conference. It's only been Bama. But how nice of you to include yourself.

Just an analysis little one. I mean, after we are dead and gone there does stand a chance someone replaces TN.

I am an unbiased ULM fan baby, we know suck when we see it. Hello, Mississippi.

Charter members don't get replaced unless they leave the conference.
