He!l yes. Spurrier won one National Championship before the playoff era and never went undefeated.

Kirby has now won two National Championships and just went undefeated. And he is much better at recruiting than Spurrier.

Spurrier was the better innovator, no question. Spurrier is also the better smart@ss.

Kirby Smart, however, is the better coach. And he is just reaching his prime.

JMHO.

Yeah, but he has a heisman and a heisman winner... and then made south carolina respectable for a few years.

Credit where credit is due — Spurrier transformed the SEC.

He made South Carolina respectable and then quit in shame when it went South.

And then there is his stint with Washington in the NFL.

Truth. And, because of that, maybe all of college football.

Uh no. Spurrier was much more efficient. Worked about 20 hrs per week during the season. 10 out of season.
Kirby has to work 100 hrs/wk to do what he does. No comparison.

Georgia fans certainly feared him. But give Smart some time. He's won National Championships back to back and won in the national title game with a larger margin than any bowl game in the history of college football.

Again - two things Spurrier never accomplished. As a matter of fact, until Georgia's dismantling of TCU, the worst beat-down in a national championship game was probably Nebraska's shellacking of Spurrier's Florida team in 1997.

True stories... but when I'm getting hammered at my buddy's place in crescent beach, I never hope to run into kirby smart

To be fair that Nebraska era wishbone was stout.

Spurrier's winning percentage as a college coach (let's pretend the NFL thing didn't happen) - 82%

Kirby's winning percentage - 84% (and climbing).

Your opinion is shite. Kirby is having success simply because he's the head coach at a school that has more 4* & 5* D1 talent within 100 miles than any other school in the Nation (including Bama, LSU and texas.) Had Spurrier coached at UGA, 1980 would have died multiple deaths LONG before last year....

No question. Spurrier was lazy. Which is another reason why Kirby is a better coach, imo.

Unfair comparison. Spurrier had to deal with Florida State every season. Those UF teams make a couple more natties if they weren’t constantly running into those FSU buzzsaws

Had Spurrier coached at South Carolina, Kirby would kick his @ss 52-20 and make him quit the sport.

So - thanks for that.

Spurrier was a good coach but he retired in the most pussy fashion. Quit on his team.
