this guy's silver spoon hype dwarfs everything Arch got in HS in college -

4 ppg career average in 1 season of college - then on to the League with daddy

I have not heard that name in a long time. He was supposed to be the next Joe Montana.

In high school, was he a good player on an average team, or were most of the 2A teams not very good as a whole?

Why does this bother you so much????

His last name is Manning. The media needs big story lines to help sell their time. Arch Manning is a big story whether you want it to be or not.

Let it all play out. Enjoy the season.

I can tell you care a great deal with the amount of effort you out into this. I am not sure we care as much as you do.

I have a crazy idea if you can stay with me for a minute. Perhaps we should wait and see how he looks with a full offseason as the starter rather than create 5 threads a day whining about him.
He may be overrated and he may not. I am all for waiting to see how he looks before melting.

Texas is being ranked #1 despite having the 2nd lowest returning production amongst Top 25 teams, having lost 2x to UGA, 1x to OSU
Texas already played 3 games in 2025?

If there is 1 thing I dislike in College Football more than anything other, it is teams and players who are overrated. We all know at some point, they will do what they did in the past. Luckily, the preseason polls don't mean much.
Agreed. Texas is consistently underrated. After all, they have finished at or above their preseason AP rankings each of the last 3 seasons

Actually do something before getting hyped.
Didn't he break all of his uncles’ records at the same high school? Those guys seemed to do alright in college and the next level

I’d say that’s doing something…

I like the kid..he’s seems to be smart…well grounded. I raised this same question a couple of weeks ago. The problem will not be with him or any other of the Mannings. The problem will be with the rat bastards of the Burnt Orange Nation. He has a couple bad games due to the OLine..a few mistimed fumbles…bad play calling…and those assholes will crucify him.

Not sure on Arch but we will see pretty soon I guess. If TX takes any more injuries on the O line Arch might not have things that easy out there. Luckily for TX Ohio State doesnt have the same D line as they had last season or I think Arch would have a rough outing up there.

The only injury was to the back up right tackle, who was lost for the year.

There have been some minor injuries to Brooks and Goosby, but neither of them are even remotely serious.

Which is not to say whether Arch will have it easy or not. The OL is unproven, Arch is unproven, the TE is new to the program, one of the key running backs didn't play last year. It's college football. You're always going to have some level of attrition. New guys have to step up. We'll see how Arch does.

People on this thread keep saying, "we'll see against Ohio State."

I'd argue for Arch Manning specifically and for Texas in general, the game in Gainesville is much more important. For either Texas or Ohio State, I don't think the outcome of that game is that important in this day and age. When they faced off in 2005, that ended up being an elimination game, with the one loss OSU squad on the outside looking in as USC and the Longhorns faced off against one another in the Rose Bowl.

But for this year, either team might be able to get away with 3 losses and still make the playoffs. Certainly a two loss season will get them in.

The key is not the outcome of this game, but the measuring stick it provides. Both programs face less than stellar competition for a few weeks before going up against another legitimate foe - OSU versus Washington in Seattle, and Texas facing the Gators.

The level of improvement Arch Manning shows during that time - or the lack thereof - will be a way more important barometer for me than the snapshot we all get in Colombus two weeks from today.

Two weeks! College football is almost upon us!

Lets see what happens with him when he starts taking real hits without anybody taking it easy on him.
