Vanderbilt is a wee bit harder to get into.

For non-athletes, sure.

Football players, not so much.

One of my friends signed with Vandy last year. He was very smart both in the classroom and on the field. But I don't think he could've gone there had he not received a football scholarship there.

I've always felt the standard for athletes was slightly lower but way higher than the rest of the SEC.

This to a certain extent. It's probably comparable to Notre Dame.

I think he will be at another school next year. He knows what's coming at au. He can coach thru bowl season, win a MNC and then move on.

Gus isn't in such a hurry to leave Auburn. He says point blank he wants to be a head coach, but loves coaching the kids at Auburn and really loves it there.

I'm not delusional and I know he is going to be a head coach somewhere soon, but I find it hard to believe he's leaving to go to Vandy, of all places.

And WAY higher than Texas Tech.

Which is the point I was making about the comparisons to Leach and Tech were not accurate.

He would be an idiot to take that job unless he knows Auburn is about to be placed on probation.

As a current Vandy student who lives on the same hall as several football players, I can assure you their admission requirements are lower than the general student body by a LOT, but you can't get in with a 21 ACT or anything. I think they said 24-25 is the minimum. For the regular student nowadays you have to be over 30 to even have a shot.

Here's a link to ESPN about Malzahn.

quote:

Vanderbilt hasn't wasted any time targeting its top choice to replace Robbie Caldwell.

The Commodores have already made inquiries concerning Auburn offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn, and he's the guy at the top of their list.

Malzahn had a couple of head-coaching nibbles last year and said prior to this season that he would certainly like to be a head coach, but that he would also not jump at just anything that was out there.

It makes sense that Vanderbilt would go after Malzahn, who's been an offensive wiz everywhere he's been. In his second season as Auburn's offensive coordinator, the Tigers are averaging 42.8 points and 505.2 yards per game, ranking in the top 10 nationally in both categories.

Vanderbilt, on the other hand, has perennially struggled offensively.

He will get offers other than Vandy this year. I think he would be a fool to come in at VAndy as a head coach and try to compete agianst the SEc talent with a very limited talent pool at Vandy. he will never get the atheletes he needs at Vandy to compete in the SEc.

I want him to stay at the barn and keep running that high school offense.

If he takes that job his trickeration will get exposed faster than you can say Robbie Caldwell.

This is his third year in the SEC, you'd think he'd be exposed by now...

I think CGM is a great coordinator but I'm not so sure he'll be as successful as a head coach.

But I wouldn't be surprised if he left after this year.

But he's an offensive mastermind. He should take Vandy to the SECCG in a couple of years.
