Neyland is the best defensive mind of all time in college football.

This is complete bullshite. No doubt he was a great coach and you might say he was best defensive coach of his era but in the history of college football? That is like saying Earl Blaik whose 1944 Army team averaged 56 points a game was the greatest offensive mind in college football history or Tom Osborne with 1983 Nebraska because of the points they scored. You have to look at different eras and competition. Put them Tennessee defenses against 2019 LSU or 2020 Bama and see what happens. Put them against 1983 Nebraska or 70's era OU and the Wishbone. These games would be over in the first 5 minutes.

doubt this record will ever be matched or broken.

Especially since they lost their bowl game 0-14. But then, why ruin a good story right?

How many coaches had a team that didn’t get scored on for an entire season. Neyland team went 71 quarters straight without giving up any points, which is a record that will never be touched.

Woody Hayes would be far ahead of Spurrier in accomplishments as a head coach.

Sorry that’s in response to foots.

John Vaught should be mentioned in here somewhere. Only Neyland 3-2, Bryant 7-6-1, and Dodd 1-0 held winning records over him.

This is a simply unbelievable stat. Neyland is definitely one of greatest of all time. Just imagine if he hadn’t left twice to go to war and do General stuff.

Well what is the biggest prize in football? Is their a coach that has won a College National Championship and the Super Bowl? He would be it. Saban ain’t won the Super Bowl!

they were AP and Coaches Poll champs in 66. i know bama got screwed that year, but you're saying a unanimous AP/Coaches natty, especially pre-bcs, is bogus?

It was simply political. The nation was NOT going to let an all-white Alabama team win a third NC in a row. Alabama was the best team, undefeated and untied, and ND went for a tie over Michigan State.

So ND's NC in 1966 was unearned, period, even Michigan State had a better claim after the season.

Bud Wilkinson. Won 3 titles. Won 47 straight games a record that still stands today

Barry Switzer. Won 3 college titles. Won 1 Super Bowl, one of only 3 coaches to have won titles in college and NFL (Jimmy Johnson/Pete Carrol)
