Sam Cunningham led USC to a THOROUGH asswhipping of Alabama in 1970. That was the reason the rest of the SEC decided to integrate. Of course Tennessee led the way in integrating with the first black QB (Condredge Holloway). BTW, Holloway was the first black baseball player at Tennessee.

That's not true, only LSU and Ole Miss didn't have a black player on scholarship yet in football.

You did not. Many teams kept the scores low in the old days
You using UT's 1939 team, the one that USCw beat 14-0 in the Rose Bowl, makes your assumption wrong

Bear was definitely a drunk. I was referring to Neyland but I was confusing him with Majors.

It’s Bryant or Saban

To be fair, had Neyland not served his country it would have been interesting to see how his numbers would run. Imagine if saban stopped coaching in his peak years.

Only looking at this from an SEC standpoint:
1) Saban
2) Neyland
3) Bryant

I have a soft spot for Coach Bryant. Neyland has mad respect and could easily claim the throne. ( hiswins against Bryant were against Kentucky) but still great.

No respect at all for the fat Phillip Fulmer, but you will always have the General.

Neyland was also 12-5 against Bama.

they were AP and Coaches Poll champs in 66. i know bama got screwed that year, but you're saying a unanimous AP/Coaches natty, especially pre-bcs, is bogus? Notre Dame got screwed in 93'.

the only nattys Notre Dame claims that aren't from the two wire service polls are 3 pre-wire service poll undefeated seasons under Rockne before 1936.

the other 8 are all AP and/or Coaches Poll national titles.

Never, in the history of college football, has Notre Dame been screwed when it comes to poll voting. 1977 was a travesty. Alabama, #2 in the polls, pounded a Top 10 Buckeye team in the Sugar Bowl. The northern sportswriters jumped Notre Dame all the way over Bama from #5 to #1.

we beat fsu in 93' and finished with the same record. fsu was awarded the natty. bama has a great argument for 77', but you think that Notre Dame's claim to a unanimous wire service natty is bogus? bama had a great argument because they beat a common opponent that notre dame lost against. it was putting a beatdown on earl campbell and texas that did it.

i'm not arguing who the better teams are or who should have been #1. some of you are saying that Notre Dame claims bogus nattys. it's simply not true. arguments can be made for the majority of wire service national titles before the bcs.
