Companies are going to start sponsoring recruits. There will be a players union before you know it.

The only reason I live in MS over CA is the cost of living. It kicks our arse in every other way. Sorry if this offends.

Homelessness, shite on the streets, lack of water, lack of power, outrageous taxes, outrageous cost of living, lower quality of life.... Yep, fantastic place!!

It's just State's luck that they change the rules right when we're about to open a Golden Age of Bulldog dominance.

Wait, nevermind. Blow the whole damn thing up

College football has been dying for a long time now. Just look at the huge disparity of talent in the sport. I'm starting to wonder if this so-called "arm's race" since Saban arrived has led to college football's downfall. Just look at the parity in the sport in 2007 compared to what it is now.

This new law sounds fine, maybe even like a good idea

It's a necessity. Kids are not gonna keep playing for Universities with admins and a governing body (NCAA) who individually make millions while they get a free education. Not an equal return at all. Something would have disrupted the system. I don't see any potential negative effects for college football. There is no equivalent minor league option. Kids still have to go to the NCAA to make it to the next level For college basketball who does have an established minor league (G-league) and other options such as China or Euroleague this allows Universities to compete for kids who would rather go play in one of those leagues for a year instead of college. For baseball, it will allow colleges to compete with the pros for highly ranked prospects. Literaly, I don't see any detriment to this policy at all besides less future parity. I don't see how this would make the admins of the NCAA or univerisites take a paycut. It would do nothing but increase the bottom line. It baffles me to how anyone can be against it.

Unfortunately lots of lawyers will be lining up to file class action suits to force the NCAA to comply and to force the NFL to comply

The NCAA doesn't have to comply with anything, the member institutions make the rules and agree to abide by the rules when they sign on to be a part of the voluntary organization.

The top programs are already paying players, it’s just from the shadows. All this new rule would do is give boosters the opportunity to set up the new batch of recruits with autograph gigs, commercials and endorsements out in the open.

Leonard Fournette would have been set up with hundreds of thousands of dollars in guaranteed opportunities before he even graduated high school.

Just be honest and end the student athlete charade.

It's minor leagues hosted by colleges.

The end of amateur college football.

Only a handful of teams will be worth watching though.

not to mention interracial marriage after Loving v. Virginia. Nothing, whether good or bad, lasts forever.

If the NCAA holds its ground, and the universities stick with them, those kids aren’t going to have an option. Especially the football players.

Other than the top 20 or so programs splitting from the rest and creating their own league, right?

This is a distinct possibility if the NCAA doesn’t play ball.

What they really should be concerned about is the fan base.
If it becomes something that turns off the fanbase, I can find a lot of things to spend that ticket money on than supporting my alma mater's athletic department.
Yeah, tv money will always be there but playing in front of empty stadiums will not be good for college sports.

The first part of the SEC series on the SEC Network that showed how the sport started and how one team A&M brought in ringers from North Caroline to play against Sewanee shows that this sport, although popular, has always struggled with how to control it even back then.

If it wasn't so expensive to live there I'd live in California 99/100 times over Georgia and I actually like it here in Atlanta. The rest of the state might as well not exist to most. Let's not even compare the rest of the Deep South. Not worth the trouble.

Don't see what this has to do with CFB but just thought I'd add

I love california. That doesn't make it nice.

California is all the way on the other side of the country and it houses a majority if people who I would rather live on the other side of the country.
It is almost perfect (it could be another country).

Gonna be fun again. It will take a few years, but when the big money model dies it will transition to club sports where you have tryouts from the student body. Nobody will be on athletic scholarship and will be playing because they enjoy to play.

By that time technology will be such that 5 guys with a go pro and tablet will stream games live as good as ESPN does them today.

It will be a lot more fun. Lots of kids that get a chance at an education today will lose that chance completely, more will be going juco or trade school, and even more will have extra student loan debt but hey, we will have stopped exploiting kids by giving them hundreds of thousands in free education.

What will happen is that players will get to profit from EA Sports NCAA Football video games.

But, what it will also do is open the door for pay-to-play all over the place. Boosters will help players profit from their name and likeness in all sorts of scenarios.

That is a problem, but I think it can be addressed.

Extremly true but it shouldn't change. As in, it should still be the Arkansas Razorbacks & the Florida Gators. There's a reason college sports are so addictive and it's because we feel a connection to them that you just can't get from a pro team. That's why I'm not worried about paying athletes at all. I will never be an Astro, or Rocket, or Houston Texan, but I am and always will be a Razorback and that's why college sports isn't going anywhere.

people slamming California have probably never been there. San Diego is as nice as any City in America.

I love San Diego, just got back from there a month ago. They have a wonderful art exhibit in Balboa Park right now that we enjoyed. The Gas Lamp District was great and we were there last year during the Day of the Dead in Old Town. I plan to visit San Diego for years.

It's happening. One mega conference for football and one for basketball. And fans subscribing to PPV channels owned by the leagues in order to watch their teams each week.

Yay
