Besides, I'm old enough to have picked a school back when one could get into UGA by autographing the back of a cocktail napkin. I declined.
Sure you did.

If you are a UGA poster in the 35-40 year old range with a mom alum, there's a not completely remote chance that I picked her up at some dive bar.
Sure you did.

Ahh General Sherman. Ran over Georgia, President of LSU, and buried in Missouri. Him and Grant who put his library at Mississippi State are big SEC fans.
Isn't it beautiful?
Sherman donated cannons from Fort Sumter to LSU. They are outside the Military Science building.

Georgia..the state that enables Auburn to field a football team every year.

I read that as well. Very interdasting the things around the SEC that are kept on the DL. How in the hell did I not know that Ulysses S. Grant built his presidential library in Starkville, Mississippi? Such a dirty little secret.

Doesn't the Auburn band play this exact same song?
Yes, they do...however, they play it as if they have molasses all stuck in their tubas (thick & slow).

Georgia has both fast and slow versions, which you would know if you had read the article in the OP.

I don't really read up much about Georgia or LSU, but it is interesting that General Sherman was the 1st Superintendent of LSU. You would think LSU and Georgia fans wouldn't get along as well as they do, seeing as he burned a large portion of their state. Bygones I guess.
My comment had more to do with american history than Georgia or LSU

Then I would suggest that the history board might be the best place for you.

How many of these "Georgia, (who, why, where)...." threads are you going to start?

college acceptance/school rankings smack sucks when your school is pretty good IMO. there are countless uga students who could have gone to tech or florida, for example, so it just doesnt really hit hard. im sure there are countless auburn students who could have gone to uga. i get that it's fun and tradition, but it's dumb.

Actually no. I am not. Keep trying, though. Will GT win more than two this year?

Georgia, why is your fight song stolen from the Yankees?
You do realize that "Dixie" was written by a Yankee (Daniel Emmett, from Ohio) , and first published in New York in 1860, right?
We were all Yankees prior to April, 1861, and we've all been Yankees since May, 1865.

Well kumbamotherfrickingya I guess.
You are not helping out the cause here. I am trying to rile Georgia's arse up here so they attack us and then the back and forth ensues.

It was also Abraham Lincoln's favorite song and Lincoln ordered it played upon hearing of the confederacy's surrender at Appomattox.
There were also "Yankee" lyrics to the song that have largely been lost to history...
quote:
Away down South in the land of traitors,
Rattlesnakes and alligators,
Right away, come away, right away, come away.
Where cotton's king and men are chattels,
Union boys will win the battles,
Right away, come away, right away, come away.
