Maten, as good of a college player as he is, probably isn't getting drafted so I'm not sure what sitting out the NIT has to do with protecting his stock

He will be drafted by someone in the late second. Wouldn't be surprised if he's a 3 in the NBA. Will be a project player to see if he can improve his outside shooting

UGA is an elite basketball program. They should absolutely decline the NIT invitation.

You must have missed the part where Auburn quit last year, right? there is a link slightly above if you want to take a look at it.

Might not have anything to do with it. Who knows? Nobody can say one way or the other. Could be the team just didn't want to go. It happens. Georgia certainly won't be the first team to not go to the NIT.

Again. I don't like it that UGA will turn down a NIT invitation, either. I was just wondering if those that were criticizing were being consistent. So many people on here are not. Apparently you are!

Understood. I feel much more strongly about it if it is an AU player.

Players decided to rest up until Coach Matta gets on campus then beginning the process of fricking the rest of the SEC next season.

The "late second" upperclassmen picks usually end up going undrafted in favor of Euro stashes

And no way Maten can ever guard threes at the next level. Plus the NBA doesn't take 21-year-old projects

If I were Maten I wouldn't want to risk blowing my knee out in an NIT game

While I don't really care for basketball, I am always disappointed when athletes don't play when given the opportunity, if they are physically capable. Unfortunately, it is what it is. In this day and time when money rules, players want to protect themselves, and, to an extent I can understand. But, how far in the future are we until players decide not to play in their conference championship games, or CFB Playoffs, because they are playing against other elite athletes and their chances of being injured are significantly higher?

I realize it seems silly. But 3-4 years ago it was unheard of for players to skip bowl games. It is a sure sign that college athletics has truly become the farm system of the pro leagues.

Sorry. I thought you were taking another shot at Georgia. My apologies.

Good luck to Auburn in the NCAA's!

Barnes had to beat UGA for the first time to win (a share) or the SEC. Congrats for getting over that hump.

Whoa now! Why on Earth would they not want to play in the NIT? Sounds like "sour grapes".
