I'm not defending him for sitting out. I'm saying, IMO there is a difference between sitting out to protect your draft stock and an entire team electing to not play because they essentially just want to end the season.

I would imagine Yante Maten didn't want to play because he was protecting his draft stock. Without him, they would only embarrass themselves.

It shows Carlton Davis was trying to preserve some financial security.
That's about as silly and reaching as you can get. Do you think Yante Maten might have been protecting his financial security?

The analogy would be similar if Maten sat out, but the rest of the team played.

Ok. So criticize Davis along with the Georgia basketball team. All I am saying is quit being a homer and hypocrite. call it for what it is. 5 years ago you never heard of a college football player sitting out a bowl game. now it is of utmost importance?

We get it. Its just your staunch position that single players sitting out bowl games for the draft is the same as a team declining the invite to even play is befuddling. I don't think anyone likes either scenario, but underlying reasons for each are much different in my mind.

I don't like either one. I think players/champions play. they represent their school. If they are physically able to play, they should play. That goes for the UGA Basketball team and that goes for all the football players. The only reason I singled out Davis was because it was Auburn posters who were doing a good bit of the criticizing.

How the frick is that silly and reaching?? I'm pretty sure that's 99.9% of the reason college football player's are sitting out bowl games. Sure Maten could do the same thing - but the rest of the team didnt have to be a bunch of pussy sheep and pack it up.

The analogy would be similar if Maten sat out, but the rest of the team played.

God you are a MORON. Carlton Davis is not the only college football player to sit out a bowl game so how the hell am I being a homer?? And I have said that I do not like that but people are doing because they do not want to get hurt before the draft. I dont think that is even debatable. You're team is QUITTING, as a whole, because their coach is gone and apparently feel the NIT is beneath them, or at least you do.

Not the statement per se, but the notion that Davis was protecting his financial status and Maten was not.

Maten was the team.

So, some other players are sitting out then it is the right thing to do?
Okay. Surely you understand that Georgia is not the first team to turn down a NIT invitation, right?

Seems other people have no problem with teams turnign down an NIT invitation:

LINK

Is it your opinion that any invitation a tournament extends has to be accepted?

LINKOh, look! Auburn turned down a CBI tournament invite. I wonder why they didn't want to get all that extra practice and exposure?

That was one persons opinion after this happened...UGA and Mark Fox played hard in the tournament.

ust say 'No' for a team that slinked out of Nashville's Bridgestone Arena Saturday afternoon after it lost 71-38 to Texas A&M

And your opinion on Auburn not playing in the CBIT? A post season tournament that Auburn turned down?

Your entire team turned down an invite just last year!

I mean sure, but stuff like this shouldn't be left to the team. It's better for the program to get extra practice, exposure, and game time.

Yet Auburn turned down an invitation to a post season basketball tournament just last year.

Auburn declines CBI Tournament invite; Tigers season ends at 18-14

You are being a homer and hypocrite because you won't come back in this thread and criticize Auburn basketball for doing the same thing you criticized Georgia for doing.

I get it that you guys just want to sever all ties to Fox now, but I think turning down NIT shows a lot about the mental make up of your team.

Every player was recruited and coached by Fox. It shows more about his coaching than it does about Georgia the school.

Funny, I can't get any of them to comment on the mental makeup of their team, since they turned down a postseason tournament last year. When their hypocrisy is pointed out to them, they abandon a thread. I wonder why?

You don't know how the NIT works do you? We'd probably have a road game at a west coast school and lose by 30

LSU is a 3 seed in the NIT with an RPI of 94. UGA has an RPI of 79. Georgia would likely get a home game.

Sonuvagun didn't even realize Auburn had turned down a tournament last year, so he decided to criticize Georgia for doing it. He must be a huge fan.

I wonder where all the Auburn posters went that were criticizing Georgia? They seem to have forgotten how to get back to this thread.
