Pretty terrible life lesson they're getting here.
It's an INVITATION to a meaningless exhibition tournament. They've fulfilled their obligation to the team. A more accurate comparison would be choosing not to go to the company Christmas party after your boss and all upper management were let go. It's utterly meaningless, they aren't failures at life by turning down the NIT. Goodness gracious man.

It's an opportunity to continue to play and practice as a team and work to get better.

Honestly don't care what your opinion is, just being honest.

Winning the NIT is validation you probably should have gotten an NCAA invite.

It's no different than a bowl after coach is fired.

they've just played 30+ games together, do you really and truly think that when November 2019 rolls aroudn that the 1 or 2 extra games they played in the NIT is going to benefit them some way?
I mean if we didn't fire the coach yes I'd agree it's a bitch move..but they wouldn't have declined if fox was still here. The team will have a new coach and new staff next year. Some guys might transfer. The 1 or 2 games we'd play are entirely meaningless.

Georgia would probably have at least another home game for the seniors. But if that's what a majority of the players wanted then that's the right decision.

If they can put together a decent run then yes

I get the sentiment but its a bitch move however you slice it. Coaches get fired all the time. Doesn't mean the team shouldn't play out its post season.

I don't question their right to decline the invitation. I just think it's weak

Competing is fun. Quitting is for losers
Posted on 3/11/18 at 3:57 pm to djsdawg
If you're in the NIT you're already a loser.

I mean sure, but stuff like this shouldn't be left to the team. It's better for the program to get extra practice, exposure, and game time.
I agree with you, but the same should go for football players who decide not to go to a bowl game, shouldn't it? I mean, how much good exposure does a program get, if their team gets beat by an inferior opponent, then say the bowl didn't mean anything, and they didn't really want to be there? Or the game was meaningless?
Again, I agree with the sentiment, but I would rather the team stay home than to go and embarrass themselves and the school with lackadaisical, sloppy play.

What I'm saying is, it should have never been left to a team vote. There's a ton of shite I don't want to do, but they signed to play for the university, if they choose to sit out, pull their scholarship.
Didn't Auburn have a player or two sit out the Peach Bowl?
Posted on 3/11/18 at 4:12 pm to WG_Dawg
Same idea with the liberty bowl. We still played the game and won.

And your opinion on Carlton Davis sitting out the Peach Bowl?

I remember Saban's first year at Bama. I think we had 7 wins that year. It was just good enough to get invited to the lowest tier, shittiest bowl available: the one in Shreveport . Bama played the game because it got extra exposure, extra practice, and a game against a P5 opponent: Colorado. Bama won that game and it set up the run in 2008 where they went undefeated in regular season play.
