I agree...this wasn't supposed to be their year...too many holes, too many question marks...the types of things that you could legitimately say about a lot of quality teams on any given year with one exception...after 2011 or so when it became clear that Bama was going to be a national championship contender every single year...it didn't matter who the quarterback was, or if they lost 9 on offense and 9 on defense. UGA being this good, right now, when they are this young at key positions and in theory, razor thin on OL, is phenomenal. It underscores what you are saying...they are going to be good for several years. I didn't believe in Kirby...I do now. No one has spent more time studying Saban's process. It obviously has taken hold and I fricking hate it. It's impressive...but now we have to play 2 versions of Bama every year!?!?!

Ouch. 10-2 is now AU's ceiling.

Not sure why you think past success gurantees future success. Uf was a great program from 92-01 and 06-09. Doesn't mean they will be great any time soon.

Not sure why you think one of the best all sports programs in the nation, and one of the two best SEC football programs since divisional play began, won't have a very good football team. It's much more likely that they will than that they won't.

Who goes and who stays?
Can Eason beat Fromm out if he is healthy?

I am not saying they can't. I am saying it's just as likely they have another failed hire. They have been hit or miss. From 2002 to 2017, how do they stack up? 06,08,09 were great teams. None of the others were.

We could also possibly lose DT Trent Thompson along the DL, but with his medical issues earlier this spring and missing some time with injury this fall I think he will return. The good news for our LBs and DL is that we sub out and rotate a LOT, so we have some good, experienced depth there. We also return a really good corner and a good safety.
* denotes junior declaring early
Honestly I see all the eligible juniors declaring. Thompson is from one of the poorest areas in the state. Roquan is having a hell of a year. Patrick is behind the 8 ball. One more weed infraction and you can kiss his career good bye.
For 2018, let Fromm have total control of the offense. Get those young big talented OL playing experience.
Let the young defense make mistakes while learning from them. 2019 sets up just like 2017. Returning loads of players along with yet the best recruiting class the program has seen...

They have been hit or miss.
Good lord, fellow. Since divisional play began in 1992, Florida has won more games than any other SEC team, won 3 national titles and 7 SEC titles. That's an awful lot of hits, and relatively few misses.
edit: Hell, as previously noted, they just fired the guy that won the East division his first 2 years, and it was because he wasn't winning enough or recruiting well enough, and darn sure wasn't because he might have lied about threats. They sure were quick to use that as an excuse though. I'll give them credit. They didn't fart around, but saw an opportunity and took it.

In the 16 year post spurrier era of 2002-2017:
- UF has the 15th best winning % nationally (through 16, so with potential to be closer to 20th).
- UF Lost 4+ games a whopping 69% of the time
- UF finished in the top 10 only 25% of the time.

If things progress like they have so far we will be ready for a sustained run starting in 2019. Our roster will be on par with any in the country. Kirby will be a seasoned coach. The culture will be established. I can see our program being in the championship convention year after year.

Those few elite years are included in the numbers. To be closer to 20th overall despite winning so many games in those 3 seasons proves just how bad the rest of the seasons were. The point is the lows have vastly outweighed the short lived highs of 2006, 2008, and 2009 in a post-spurrier world for UF.

I don't think Eason is interested in staying. Fromm looks to be the guy going forward. He's gotten props for his game sense and "management" skills, but he has a decent arm - just hasn't had to use it yet. He's a 4* guy himself, let's not forget. I don't see Kirby / Georgia going forward with a big vertical attack in future anyways. Eason has the raw talent, but Fromm is the better fit, IMO.
Next year might be a bit of a rebuild with all our defense and Sony / Chubb off to the NFL, but 2019 should be a very interesting year - Fields will be a sophomore, and this #3 class will all be upperclassmen.

Wouldn't shock me, I've been wondering what SEC program will eventually take on Bama's dominance one day. Georgia has the rich recruiting grounds, facilities, and with a decent coach who has players believing, anything is possible. Kirby is not like other Saban coaches, he has actually stayed around Saban long enough to make a difference. I think he'll have Georgia has a powerhouse moving forward. No team stays atop forever and it's really amazing what Saban/Bama has done, for as long as they've done it, especially when we consider the parity throughout CFB compared to years past. Hopefully we're all treated a killer SEC Easy -vs- West rivalry with Bama-vs- Georgia going at it. Those 2008-2009 Bama -vs- Florida SEC title games was great stuff. History and the the natural way of CFB says someone will step up and test Bama or replace them as top dogs. We'll see if that team is Georgia soon enough.
