Honestly, I think the main takeaway from UGA-Miss St:

UGA Clearly recruits elite but they are clearly not elite. Why??? Even with good QB play...a 1 TD victory. Seriously, it’s head scratching.

He played bad against Bama and Kentucky and great against A&M, Georgia, and Vandy

And Saturday doesn’t count, why?

Even then, Costello since the LSU game has 1 TD to 8 INT. Rogers is still better with 2 and 4, and he’s played tougher competition.

Rogers has had 3 good games and 2 bad games. Costello has had one great game and 5 historically shitty games. Costello might be the worst QB in SEC history. There’s no comparison between the two.

but the defense he lit up Saturday night is the same defense that has played well all year for Mississippi State

We gave up 406 to Vanderbilt and we are straight buns on defense, my man.

It’s not about what State has done before. They loaded the box with 8 or sometimes 9 guys. They threw 5-7 yd passes 85% of the time. The Pirate played to the strength of his players. The 6-5 receiver Osiris somebody could start anywhere in the SEC. I think Leach has purged his naysayers and isn’t gonna be the push over we thought. We held them to 22 yds on the ground but they held us to 8. The difference was they had to try and cover our receivers that FINALLY got to show why they were high 4 and 5 stars in HS. MSU isn’t a bad team. Their defense just sold out to stop the run and if Daniels didn’t play his arse of they would have beaten us.

I don’t think the stats tell the entire story. Yes, you look and see the 4.6 but he was averaging the quickest release of any SEC QB because the pressure was on him that quick. This game was the best game by the OL by far and he wa able to hit a few 6 routes and Y cross type routes down the field.
Also, he could very well have 4 tds vs 2 ints as 2 of his “picks” were passes to the same WR in 2 games that hit him in the hands/chest and he let the DB just yank the ball from him in the EZ. So as a QB, he did his job hitting the WR, the WR just got Debo’d for the ball which is probably why that WR doesn’t start anymore.
Ofcourse as a FR he has his wth passes, but overall he’s been pretty steady in taking care of the ball. Zero turnovers vs a top SEC defense in his 2nd start is pretty good imo.

Now count the minutes of the reserves and understand some of the starters were forced into their roles as the season unfolded . Yeah, bunch of backups, but whatever helps you!

Where the lack of numbers come in is in the ability to give the starters a rest...

Overall I just enjoyed watching a Freshman QB running an offense that I’ve been told doesn’t work move the ball efficiently vs one of the the top talented defenses in the SEC as they ran the drop 8 scheme that’s been anointed on here as the Silver Bullet for stopping said offense.

Give MS some credit. They played their hearts out.

Is this really where UGA is at now?

I’m sure MSU did play a good game. Especially considering all the limitations and adversity they are facing playing with 49. But you don’t think it’s concerning they unexpectedly played their best football of the year against UGA? Even if MSU is on the upswing, UGA must still be cratering for them to have played with this level of parity against the most talented roster in college football. Yet all I’m seeing in the aftermath is excitement from UGA.

The UGA playbook dictates “We’re so good, that we would win everything if we had just an average QB.” Now there’s gushing about how great the QB is, but yet the result is squeaking out a win against 2-5 MSU. And “they really played their hearts out.” I just didn’t think things were so bad in Athens.

17 players opt out or transfer. At least 3 or 4 opt outs (some mid-season) were starters, including their best player K Hill

Not to mention, it doesn't address the effect on the players in the 2 deep, in particular on the defensive front for a rotation and limitations on certain pesonnel pkgs. Then, add in the fact that the MSU roster at full strength was not exactly top tier. Oh by the way, they were playing arguably the most talented roster in CFB on the road.

UGA underperformed bigly, short and simple. MSU played one of the best games in school history given the total context of their situation and talent ability. They could easily have mailed it in, but they showed up and played hard to a close finish while heavily overmatched.

I think a lot of the success by florida and miss st offenses were playcalling and scheme. Against miss st, uga chose to play zone and force miss st to march down the field and play without mistakes. And miss st did that.

When UGA tried to change things up to stress the offense, miss st was ready and burned UGA on on drags and cross routes for big gains against man coverage.

Credit goes both to the miss st players and coordinators. They had a good plan.

Later in the second half, uga changed up the zone schemes and was able to finally confuse the QB into making bad throws. We failed to capitalize on a couple of pick 6 opportunities.

Miss st played a good game. I think the number of players they had is a little overstated. How hard is it for a receiver to settle into a zone 5 yards beyond the line of scrimmage right in front of the QB.
How often does a defense sub their starting safeties (the weakness that got picked on over and over by Daniels).

You know your program isn't up to snuff when you're starting threads about beating Miss State. Maybe Kirby should have played Daniels on defense vs Bama and UF.

Did they?

Maybe, they're just who they are and not the darlings that the media kept portraying them to be!

That’s a play called Mesh, vs Zone they find a spot and settle, vs Man they keep running. I believe vs man was the TD pass they hit wher the WR climbs after they cross.

Their starting safety just opted out, I’d guess they were grasping at straws for who would fare better vs what UGA was doing

You have 16 5* players and 46 4* players, more talent than any team in the history of college football, on one roster and you beat a group of 49 scrubs by 7 points....at home.

Also irrelevant. UGAs backups are higher ranked prospects than States starters.

You guys don’t get to boast your class rankings every year then downplay the same players in a close game / loss. Sorry
