What kind of seasons does he have to have for y’all to keep him around? Are 8,9,10 win seasons enough or will his seat get warm if he doesn’t win the conference in his first five years?

How do you put a leash on someone without a neck?

I think given Florida's history it's pretty obvious that he'll have to win at a high level to keep his job.

McElwain won the damn division twice and it wasn't enough...

Although, if the offense is working I bet they will have a longer leash because fans will be happier. But who knows.

7 wins, a made up story about death threats, and a picture of him plowing a shark should do it

Honestly, I'd be really worried if he lost to Miami. I think he has at least four years to win something big before Gator fans get restless.

I'm willing to give him this year, too, because McElwain left a pretty broken roster in his wake depth-wise and that will be hard to fix in a few years.

He's basically trying to fix a ten year problem in two right now, and so Gators will likely be very lenient at the moment.

For me, though, to reiterate: Miami and the State of Florida are big for me. That game makes us #1 in the state. (We beat the team that beat UCF so we're champs of the state anyway.)

Meh... We've seen similar posts about how long does Kirby have to win a Natty before he gets fired... This board is nonsensical most of the time. It has ceased being surprising.

That was an amazing sequence of events.

McElwain lost 4 games in every season he coached. He was 3-4 when he got fired. Sad such a poor coach was able to best UGA. Line about no neck is A+. He is one of those big head dogs that always tosses the leash.

LOL

Don't forget that he was fired after losing to the Dawgs 42-7.

No. It was just a question about expectations. Oddly enough, Straws is the one that answered it with a level head.

A merciful 42-7, at that.

Same as Muschamps was.

We liked Champ. So people in the admin and boosters fought for him longer

Hated Mac...its why he got midseason.

So his leash is decently strong...well for a Florida football coach at least. His history with the program helps as well.

He was fired before the game and told his players that before we played Georgia, according to his players.

He just went 10-3 with players Mac’s MWC conditioning program turned into weenies. I think we can pump the brakes on the leash talk

Here's an article contrasting the ways Georgia and Florida behaved at the SEC Media Days event.

A team takes on the character of the coach.

Georgia has class; Florida?

Social media grabbed it days before the game, and your AD had to give McElwain the kiss of death beforehand (we stand by our coach... those are rumors).

Never a good look for the AD.
Never a good feeling for the coach when the AD feels so much pressure that he has to comment.
