The 2007 college football thread on the MSB got me thinking about just how good of a coach Rich Brooks was at Kentucky.

Rich Brooks also did a nice job for the Ducks. He coached in Eugene from '77 to '94. He inherited a program that was losing money and eventually got them to the Rose Bowl before bolting for the Rams. Bellotti and Nike money took it from there but Brooks did a nice job laying the foundation.

Apparently Brooks now lives not far from Eugene. He played DB for Oregon State for Tommy Prothro way back in the early 60s.

Nutt wasn't run out of town for his record or lack of accomplishments on the field. The SEC-W wasn't anything like it is today when Nutt was coaching, either. Ole Miss thought they'd hit the jackpot when they hired him, but they were smart enough to get rid of him much quicker. There's a good reason why Nutt isn't coaching anywhere today.

P.S. Still waiting on apologies from the media for deriding Arkansas for getting rid of him.

Danny Ford would definitely fit the bill here. He built Houston Nutt's best team, and also went to an SEC championship when Arkansas's facilities were woefully behind everyone else.

It took Nutt several years and Matt Jones' freakish talent to overcome the void once Ford's recruits ran out. Darren McFadden's freakish talent saved him for a few more years.

Danny Ford had some bad years, but he will never get the credit he deserved for at least leaving a foundation for Arkansas to begin to compete in the SEC.

I saw that a Kentucky fan started this, and thought for sure that it was gonna be a Hal Mumme post.

Mumme basically started the modern era of the spread offense. He discovered Mike Leach and the rest is history.

Leach, Briles, Sumlin, kingsbury, Holgorsen, the guys at TCU et al.

And your joke is about 3 hours late.

Vol, Mumme is a great offensive coach but he put us on the probation mentioned in the OP. He's probably not going to get much love from UK fans.

Curley Hallman created a whole generation of LSU fans that melt at even the smallest misstep. No one scarred a fanbase so deeply

Tubby was my 2nd behind Phat Phil. Dinardo in 3rd. Had it not been for Lou Tepper, who knows. Dinardo spanked Sabans arse in the bowl game.

Tommy Tuberville. Especially from Auburn fans. He certainly laid eggs, especially against Arkansas, but his run from 04 to 07 was pretty good. At one point in 2007, he had won 9 of his last 10 games against AP Top 10 teams.

I believe that was heading into the epic game against LSU in 2007.

Ron zook recruited the 06 NC gators. He also had a better record than muschamp.

He also had one of the top 3 SEC records during his tenure, and got totally fricked out of the SEC East title and the FSU game in 2003 by ACC refs who absolutely stole that game for FSU.
