This entire investigation was absurd. Now I want to know why the FBI decided to target Pitino. Something about this entire sting really stinks.

Also, NC State decided today to move their case to an independent committee.

Remember when Pat's alma mater Missouri was committing academic fraud but Forde refused to acknowledge they were even under investigation until the NCAA lowered the hammer on them?

This is the guy we're dealing with here.
Yahoo claimed there was several thousands of hours of wire tapes collected by the FBI during this time. If Wade and LSU are going to be punished due to what came out during the trials, then the NCAA should also do whatever it takes to get their hands on every single piece of evidence the FBI has on the other coaches.

Since other defendants took plea deals and we didn't get trials revealing all the dirty details on other cases and coaches (Like Chuck Person, Bruce Pearl), this seems like a fair way of handling matters. Let's get everything out in the open.
Read where the FBI has several thousands of hours of wiretaps of different individuals. If the NCAA is going to punish programs based on these wiretaps then they wait until they have possession of EVERYTHING that the FBI recorded.

Doesn't seem fair that the FBI will be determining which programs will be punished or which coaches are going to lose their jobs over this.
UNC got away with it the same way Auburn and Michigan escaped punishment for similar violations. Sankey was the SEC's associate commissioner during this time, and the conference, along with the NCAA, decided to look the other way at Auburn's academic fraud. UNC even used the Auburn and Michigan in their defense, and the NCAA (With Sankey in charge) had no choice but to drop the case when UNC threatened legal action.

I keep saying that LSU should use this same strategy if the NCAA wants to punish the program. Bring up examples of other cheaters who escaped punishment for paying players and throw that in the face of the NCAA. I'm looking at you John Calipari and Kentucky.

How do we know that? During the BB trials it was brought up that this is happening in college football too. Not to mention several other instances of impermissible benefits.

You think it's just the sport of basketball that is dirty? Remember which collegiate sport brings in the most revenue.

And how many times have we seen FB recruits from elite programs flashing wads of cash after committing to a school while the NCAA ignores the entire situation?
Dick Vitale tried to tell everyone that Redick was suffering from emotional fatigue.
I honestly don't know what's going to happen but I am willing to bet anyone that Wade isn't going to prison.
Bet those schools who broke the rules recruiting during a dead period are now regretting that decision. Remember when the NCAA threw the book at Coach K for doing that?

If the NCAA decides to sanction LSU or Wade, the school should demand answers as to why the NCAA refused to act on allegations against other programs such as Kentucky and Calipari.

Early Friday morning, the Web site published another story by O'Brien that stated "sources from three separate universities told the Sun-Times that Davis Sr. asked for money in return for his son's commitment, with the amount ranging from $125,000 to $150,000."

Attorney Stephen L. Barker told the Tribune that while the school was glad the original story was off of the paper's site, "taking the story down doesn't cure all the problems. I believe this was beyond irresponsible journalism."

O'Brien's original story centered on Perspectives-Calumet player Davis' college choice, cited a "reliable source" and said "rumors/sources that have Davis choosing Kentucky are also alleging that the commitment cost $200,000."

Any such payment would be a violation of NCAA rules and, if true, would put Kentucky and Davis' college basketball future into question.

Guess we will see. Would love to hear from the NCAA on why they refused to look into certain violations, like the AD pay-for-play scheme, while sanctioning other schools.
I read the article. Did you? Whatever happened the lawsuit Davis Sr was going to slap on that reporter? Funny how he backed out on that once the paper admitted they had 3 sources to back up their story.

But my main question is why didn't the NCAA investigate this matter?

If the NCAA tries to hit LSU with anything, the school's lawyers should publicly demand answers on why the NCAA refuses to act on certain cases, like this Davis case.
Wildcheat fans are the best. Guess their selective memory includes forgetting that scummy Cal paid good money for his on only title at Kentucky.

If the NCAA tries to slap LSU with a NOA, the school should ask the NCAA what happened with their investigation into the UK BB program that included 3 witnesses to back up this story?
