Most of the people who are in support of this are probably students who don't quite live in the real world yet.

Maybe when congress sees how much damage this does to college athletics - especially at FCS, Div II & III - and TItle IX - and the rest of college athletics they'll realize how CRAZY the ruling was and legislate something that will save college athletics.

Completely worthless nowadays. Bachelors degrees are like a-holes.

Some degrees are worthless, some are not. Kids and parents need to think intelligently when considering an area of study and career path.

Anyway, I don't see a correlation between the value of bachelors degrees and slavery. That's moronic.

The whole point of the ruling was to tell the NCAA that their model of “amateurism” is illegal.

In the real world you can’t pay people in books. You have to pay them money.

Congress has the power to define amateurism and in-state it any way they want. Congress can fix this - and I think they will eventually redefine amateurism and provide some equity across all sports fielded in colleges and universities.

After the SCOTUS ruling the NCAA doesn't really have a leg to stand on any longer. Unfortunately the repercussions of this ruling deny hundreds or thousands of kids the opportunity go to college or go to the next level with their talents.

The small schools won't make it and may have to fold up athletics altogether, which denies kids a place to play college sports and get a college degree.

at a school like LSU, even though it's taxpayer funded athletics are self generating and use no tax dollars as most sec teams are probably as well except for vandy (private)

Since the NCAA is being seen as an employer now, does Title IX still apply?

Pretty sure Title IX is on its last breath with trans people destroying women’s sports.

Correct.

The academic angle is already a joke, so academics will not stand for the semi pro nature of college football.

It will not be the demise, but will certainly hasten the demise. As will widespread gambling.

In light of this Supreme Court ruling it would be ridiculous for the NCAA to try to enforce any of its rules regarding pay-for-play, NIL, or agents. Athletes will need agents and financial advisors to negotiate financial terms with schools before they decide where to sign. This is an atomic bomb for the NCAA. It should immediately revoke all rules regarding compensation for athletes. I think we will see a drastic reorganization at the NCAA this summer.

eta - Recruiting will become a financial negotiation and depriving kids of agents and financial advisors to negotiate the best deal possible for the kid (and family) would be unconscionable.

They can make money from new NIL rules but that won't stop them from opting out and getting ready for the bigger payday of professional sports.

I hadn't thought about it. They might not as easily be able to opt-out as employees. If the contract is big enough the employers/payers should put a no opt-out clause in there. Of course, the player still can opt-out, he will just be subject to legal action.

It’s a small leap from this to being able to unionize…
