Cool, but not relevant to the current discussion, I'm afraid.

We've already moved past the issue of paying players, and with no salary cap it's entirely up to what you can afford to spend.

The issue at hand is the technicality of having signed an NFL contract, which has been addressed with the ruling.
That, and the part about going from one conference school to another... which is a "rule" that never accounted for players suddenly becoming eligible again a week before the season started.

The BYU player, as I understand BYU filled their roster, and don't have a spot available. Otherwise I'm sure they'd take a 3 year, All Conference player back in a heartbeat. The rule fricked them over as much as it did the guy himself, but BYU can recover. Dude needs to find somewhere else to go.
Probably the same thing for South Carolina, I doubt they'd have looked to replace a 4 year starter if they knew he could return.

I agree with all of this. The system is broken and smart people will take advantage of it. Just like paying taxes. Rich people find the loopholes and exploit them. Until those loopholes are closed, they would be stupid not to

Why is our roster getting more expensive every time one of you knuckleheads mention it?

3 months ago it was 30M
2 months ago it was "between 30-40M"
1 month ago it was 40M
Now we're at 50M?

Tomorrow it will be 75M

It's all crazy, but I mean- if you are ruling that players are eligible and schools are not to be punished for signing them, why NOT?

Every school in college has taken advantage of other crazy rulings that we've since gotten accustomed to. Indiana just won a natty with a QB they bought from Cal, who went ahead and won the Heisman. They became a solid team by buying up the coach from JMU, and brought in a large group of players from that team. Great athletes, no. But fully bought in and indoctrinated into his system, and thus a locker room stabilizer. And locker room makes a difference for any team, there are plenty of NFL players on bad teams. You win with attitude. So that was huge. Hell, I'm shocked Fla didn't bring in a group from Tulane, guys who trust the system and are bought in, for the same reason.

These guys from the NFL camps, they don't make or break anyone. But it's like Week One transactions in the NFL, you have a chance to bolster a spot, you damn sure take it. Someone else will if you get on your high horse, and the boosters and fans won't praise you for being "ethical" if you lose.

That's why I'm pointing out this BYU kid. He's going SOMEWHERE, and he's an All Big 12 guard with 30+ starts under his belt. That doesn't come available every day. You act like you're above doing this right now, but I guarantee if he goes to, say, Auburn, and blows holes for the RB to run wild and keeps their QB upright, and they win again, Auburn fans will be happy about it.

I flat out admit as an LSU fan, I hope we sign him. Apparently we have 1 roster spot left (someone posted that walkons etc are grandfathered in this season, so the roster totals aren't 100% accurate). He would be a tremendous add for anyone.
