For everyone clutching their pearls about LSU, let me point out:

LSU is not the only team to have signed players from this group. UCLA, South Carolina, and Middle Tennessee State (!) have also. Guys are available, if you want or need. Yeah, South Carolina, so it's safe for SEC teams to do so, LSU isn't the only one.
And just for the record, Texas already took a player from an NFL team a month ago.
Oh, and specifically let me say a name- Weylin Lapuaho.
Who, you might ask?
This guy was a 3 yr starter at offensive lineman at BYU, made All Big 12 last year, and as of this writing he's still on the board. BYU went 11-1 in regular season and lost in the Big 12 title game, so I'd assume dude is fairly decent. And he was in camp
So, chew on that, if you're worried about your team's OL. We're about a week out of opening day, and suddenly there's a legit option to fix a spot. At least depth, if not an outright starter.
Remember this, if your line looks like shite.

I think we can all agree these rulings and lack of competence from the NCAA is ridiculous. But LSU is just capitalizing on their stupidity right now and folks just don’t like that Kiffin and Wade are involved.

Hell, I'm not even talking specifically about LSU with this... like it or not, it's a last second chance to bump your roster.
And there's an actual, legit P4 All Conference offensive lineman with 30+ starts that just hit the market. He's been working out in NFL camps so he's in football shape. No, he wasn't making an NFL roster, but he can't be that bad, you don't start 3 yrs at BYU if you're terrible. He's probably just maxxed out with little room to grow more, but for the college level that's ok.
Like I said, remember this if your OL looks bad. Unless you run some weird blocking scheme, dude's likely plug-and-play, at the very least for experienced depth.

LSU is paying Sam Leavitt between 4.5 and 6.0 million dollars to play for them in 2026. What does that make Sam Leavitt?
Jordan Seaton is making 4.0+ million dollars to play for LSU.
LSU's roster costs this season is allegedly over 50 million.
They're all professionals!

Cool, but not relevant to the current discussion, I'm afraid.
We've already moved past the issue of paying players, and with no salary cap it's entirely up to what you can afford to spend.
The issue at hand is the technicality of having signed an NFL contract, which has been addressed with the ruling.
That, and the part about going from one conference school to another... which is a "rule" that never accounted for players suddenly becoming eligible again a week before the season started.
The BYU player, as I understand BYU filled their roster, and don't have a spot available. Otherwise I'm sure they'd take a 3 year, All Conference player back in a heartbeat. The rule fricked them over as much as it did the guy himself, but BYU can recover. Dude needs to find somewhere else to go.
Probably the same thing for South Carolina, I doubt they'd have looked to replace a 4 year starter if they knew he could return.

The class of 2022 players who want to return to college (from the NFL) for a fifth season should be allowed to do so. They should also be allowed to enter the transfer portal, field offers, and transfer within conference if they so choose.
Regarding the interconference transfer rule, I see that as running afoul of federal antitrust law and or labor/employment law.
