I think his leash is obviously longer at Ole Miss in terms of expectations...can make a ton of coin, and pop in to the national conversation quite often...and with NIL, who knows how things go. With an expanding playoff, I think coaching decisions like this will come down to resources at the university and how they can compete in that area. It really is a new era in CFB...anything is possible at least right now, but will eventually settle in. All of the above applies to Mizzou as well. If the $$$ are there to pay the coach, but more importantly, buy the players, those schools can dominate while the landscape adjusts to NIL...but I think some schools are going hard with NIL early and often (Mizzou being one), others building towards things and maybe being more strategic in how $$ are allocated and spent... but ultimately results will have to follow or the $$ very well could dry up...I have no idea if MIZ boosters and donors can keep at $32MM/year pace on NIL. With a school like Florida, I would imagine there is a lot of water in the well...yes divided across three power 4 programs, but that's a lot of people giving $$. Crazy how fast the game has changed that this is where things are, but coaches should have this at the top of the list before taking a job. Eventually the massive $$ donors may shift attention elsewhere and will come back to funding through the every day fanbase...of which Florida, TX, and some others are huge. The schools are all already doing it, we all see it in our annual ticket packages. Those with the most willing to pony up (i.e. the greatest population and alumni base) will be those with the most $$ to spend...unless there becomes some type of cap, then it goes back to the traditional blue bloods with sporadic appearances from outsider teams.
sorry for the long read ya'll. I'd like to see coaches not job hop in the SEC, there is plenty of $$ going around for them all, but these are all highly competitive dudes and when $$ becomes less of a drive, they will go where they can get rings.

If Gators AD wasnt shite and NIL wasnt in shambles then Lane would probably have to consider the FL job seriously. As FL cant figure out how to get it’s head out of it’s arse and OM has everything aligned it’s not a likely lure

Now that Florida has named as one of our permanent teams I think Billy should get at least another 5yr extension. Y'all just need to give him more time.
More time?! How about giving more money?

Is your “talent” in the room with us now? Y’all gonna win 3 games this year. Matt Luke won more than that

I love how Ole Miss thinks the high school talent in Florida is beneath anything Mississippi can offer.
Urban Meyer said it best when he was up for the Notre Dame and Florida jobs back in ‘04.
“I chose Florida because it came down to recruiting. At that point in my life, I had a young family with kids. So, I thought to myself, I could drive anywhere in the state of Florida and be home for dinner. Or I could live in Indiana, and be forced to recruit Illinois, California, Ohio, Florida, etc. I would literally be gone and miss my kids growing up.”
Paraphrased of course.
Every resource Lane, or any coach worth his salt, could ever need is available to them in the state of Florida. All it takes is the right coach.
Does Lane want to get over the hump?
Or does Lane want to settle with mediocrity?
Either option is okay. He’ll retire one day and count his money just like any one else. He’s got rings, but all of them are from being an assistant.
He doesn’t have one from being the head coach. Florida has been there in Lane’s lifetime. Four times believe it or not (lost ‘95 to Nebraska - we all know the others).
The last great thing to come out of Oxford was Eli Manning and that was 20 years ago.

Didn't we just win a basketball title? Remind me..when Ole Miss's last SEC or Natty in Football or Basketball...You are not nearly the same level as UF. At all..not even close. We may not be considered A tier right now, but we are not as low as you zero doubt. No doubt Kiffin will jump, he has to prove he can be successful at a power since the Tenn thing did not work. Most coaches have huge egos.

For a dude that just had an ESPN doc and writeup about wanting to change his narrative, a move like would be “the same old Lane”.
Disagree, his wife who he is apparently trying to reconcile with, is the daughter of a UF legend

Just maybe he is going to go to LSU and not Florida? Isn't Lane daughter dating a LSU football player?

Spurrier then Kiffin to HC at Florida...well those 2 narsistic A-Holes sure fit the profile of a gator HC !

I don’t think he ends up going to Florida. He can’t get away with the hookers and cocaine there like he can in Oxford.

Why is it so hard for Gators to realize, they are not that big of a deal now.

You might want to take some Pepto in that case. Lane isn't leaving Oxford for Florida. LOL

You need to break that into digestible paragraphs
But yes, game has changed. I don’t think Florida is that an elite of a job currently (emphasis on currently). No school president, need a new AD. They just aren’t in a position where a coach could get real assurances they would get the support needed to build a program
