Of course if there is the slightest competition for the starting position he will merely look elsewhere...
Georgia fans can not admit that Kirby and co dropped the ball on the Fields thing. He should have had the cojones to name Fields the starter. Saban replaced Hurts after he had more success than Fromm.

Hurts gave Saban a reason to replace him...had UGA not taken Bama to the woodshed in the first half who knows what Hurts and Tua would have been???

Fields looked good against Big10 defenses but Kirby Smart has been around SEC defenses and SEC practices for a while...did he miss on Fields? Probably. Is it as cut and dried as it appears? Probably not....Fields had the opportunity in practice to prove his worth and could not surpass Fromm....for whatever reason....and Fromm never really gave Smart an excuse to take the position away like Hurts did Saban except for the 2018 LSU game and who knows what the decision there was...from the outside looking in it appears to have been a mistake but who knows what Fields had done in the practice that week other than those on the inside, and that ain't any of us.

Isn't Fields already enrolled in Ohio State classes? Pretty sure the semester is about to start also highly doubt the NCAA let's him do it because that'll just set off a massive chain reaction

Maybe he could go for the elusive double major...one from each school.

Fields own play never surpassed Fromm at that time.

Well, he wasn’t given much of a chance with the shitty play calls and situations. Kirby Smart is not...well, he’s not smart. Fat Opie can recruit well, otherwise he’s average.

I can already see based on this thread that Jawja fans still haven’t gotten over him...

Was Jacob Eason afraid of competition too when he transferred? I think the problem is a not very Smart coach at UGA that can’t evaluate QBs.

Jacob Eason proved to be exactly what many people knew he would be...a bust in the SEC. Dude played high school ball in a state where 5000 people is a crowd and acted a fool against 5' 6" white defensive backs...he was never a SEC caliber QB and Fromm was infinitely more capable when he was good that Eason will ever be. Eason saw the writing on the wall.

What is as glaring as UGA fans being blind to the Fields situation is how glaring the rest of the SEC was to how good Jake Fromm could be when he was playing at a high level....his inconsistency was huge but when he was on and his receivers were moderately able he was extremely good at times....a pile of knowledgeable NFL folks predicted first round and possibly first pick prior to his debacle of a season last year....those kinds of accolades do not just fall out of the sky...Fromm was extremely good when he was good...he was inconsistent and for whatever reason, among them a lack of qaulity receivers, took a nose dive last season....but for 2 years he was impressive to anyone without a dog in the fight.

Jacob Eason: 4th round pick
Jake Fromm: 5th round pick

I guess you and Kirby know more than every NFL scout? Hilarious to call Eason a bust and then praise Fromm in the same sentence.

Hot garbage? You do know he played and played well last year ..dudes played about 4 games worth of snaps in his career and looked good to great most of the time...what throws in what game are a cause for concern?

The int against troy was the receivers fault btw..what about his quick release and cannon for an arm do you not like? Do you just assume all QBs are garbage because that's all you have on your school's campus ?

Just give me a specific reason that he will be hot garbage. Can he be cold garbage at least?

The LSU v. UGA game in BR was the game Fields should've been given the reigns. Fields was inserted in games for running plays, option plays, and fake punts. Fields wasn't given the opportunity to win the job. And, if Kirby doesn't win a national championship he'll be known as the coach who pissed it all away by his handling of Justin Fields.

If it was ever going to happen that is the time it should have happened...yet even as bad as that game was for UGA and Fromm it still wasn't the same situation where Hurts was replaced by Tua...UGA was still in the title hunt with a win or a loss at LSU...Alabama's season was over when Tua stepped in for Hurts....but you are right, if there was ever going to be a point in time when Fields won the starting position it was against LSU....only those in the program at the time will ever know why it didn't happen but to a rabid dawg fan it looks like a miss on the part of Smart. That being said Smart is not exactly a newbie in the world of CFB at a high level...I have no doubt he is a better judge of talent he works with everyday than I am only seeing them for 4 hours 12-14 days a year.....

Neither will make an NFL roster but when they were both at UGA Fromm was heads and shoulders better than Eason...had Eason stayed in the SEC and played against SEC defenses I doubt he even gets drafted....

It was clearly a mistake by any measure. By continuing to play Fromm in that game, Smart effectively conceded both that game and Justin Fields’ career at UGA.

Smart has done far more right than wrong at UGA, but that was a big frick up.

You don't have to know football better than Kirby to know that was a mistake.

Fields is in every way such a superior player to any version of Fromm, that sitting him for Jake when Jake was struggling can't be anything but a mistake.

This is what I was thinking. Why would the NCAA allow these players to just transfer so close to the season starting?
