What are everyone's thoughts on standing or sitting down during a football game?

I've seen a lot of arguments among fans over the years. Some fans think you should never stand to block their view. Some fans think that they should be allowed to stand the entire game. Other people think that you should only stand during big moments of the game (3rd down play, hail mary, interception, etc.).

Student section: Stand all game

Everywhere else: Stand at big moments, but standing the entire game in the upper deck is silly in most situations

The students should stand all game. That can be agreed upon.

Agreed. I did my time standing and now I prefer to sit.
Plus, we didn't have much to stand for the last 2 seasons.

A lot of fights I've seen have occurred as a result of someone standing the entire game. And not wanting to sit down, even with someone elderly behind them. Wild stuff.

I like to stand all game personally. I know that bothers a lot of folks so I specifically bought my season tickets in a place in our stadium where I can stand and I’m not blocking anyone’s view.

You should cheer and be engaged. Sometimes that will mean standing. Outside of considerations for the elderly or disabled, standing should be expected. If your view is blocked by it because you're choosing not to stand and engage yourself, that's a you problem. Figure something out.

Standing all game is probably bad form, however.

I definitely get it. That's a good approach you've gone with on where your tickets are located.

for the student section, there is zero debate they shoudl obviously stand the entirety of the game.

As I've gotten older, more and more my mindset has shfited towards "don't inconvenience other people or be a jackass in general". In my section most of the people around me are seated, many are older folks, so I stay seated too. Obviously big plays or big downs people will stand up once everyone else starts standing up. But once I moved on from the student section the whole "stand up the whole game" thing kinda goes out the window.

Now at away games, often times the UGA section will all be standing for a good majority fo the game so in those cases I'll stand too. I guess my ultimate answer is, it all depends on what the folks around you are doing.

This right here. Outside the student section, you shouldn't have to stand all game. However, standing kind of works as a signal that this is an important moment, so I don't mind folks standing at key points in the game in order to get fans involved.

The folks who are militant on both ends of the spectrum drive me nuts.

At the UT/UF game last season we had a clown do this about 3 rows down. Standing in front of an old couple. About halfway through the 1st quarter my brother got his attention and told him to sit his arse down. Several other fans found their nerve once my brother said something, and joined in the chorus. Luckily the guy was smart enough to realize he was pissing off several of his fellow fans. He sat down. The old guy right behind him thanked my brother.

If you want to sit and be comfy during the game, watch from home.

I have no problem with people standing during the game.

This. I’ve seen studies that say 90% + of the field level crowd noise is coming from the first 30 rows or so of fans in the lower bowl with fans above that making a negligible impact. Its how Autzen in Oregon is so much louder than Michigan.

Absolutely. I've had to tell multiple people to sit down in front of my dad (He just turned 70) so that he could actually watch and enjoy the game. Some people handle it better than others. Common courtesy shouldn't be difficult.

It's always kind of funny to see "that guy" who think that because they're standing they are somehow a bigger or better fan than everyone else. As if your line of sight being elevanted another foot higher makes you more important. Theyr'e also the ones that'll turn around to teh whole section and raise their arms and tell everyone to get up, like they're the ringmaster or the protagonist in some kind of football movie.
