I guess we could claim titles in 1908, 1935, 1936,
1961, and 2011 also - as some associations, publications or polls have us listed as NC in those years.
But we have to settle for 3 instead of 8:
1958, 2003, and 2007

Hell using bama logic, we will just claim last year, we did finish 2nd and beat them once during the season so frick it, LSU 2011 NC!!!

Wrong. The polls were about as goofy as they had ever been in '67. Not only were they awarded before the bowls, they were awarded before Tennessee's final game. Of course the odds of 2-6-1 Vandy beating UT were slim.
IMO, if Tennessee's '38 is VERY legit and 1967 is worth examining further.
I've always thought Tennessee's 1938 title claim, Ole Miss' 1960 claim, Auburn's 1983 claim and Alabama's 1966 claim were real deals. Actually, if Alabama would swap '66 for '41 and '45 for '73, I'd get on the "14" train.

in 1939 we finished the regular season undefeated, unscored upon and didnt claim a national title. national titles were claimed before the bowl game back then. however, we lost the rose bowl that year. that is a natty title we could legitimately claim that we don't. if we were bama, you know we'd have claimed it.

The thing that stinks about that season for the Vols...UT was #1 from October 28th through November 18th...(the next to last game of the season). Tennessee beat Vanderbilt, and A&M beat Rice...but jumped UT in the polls.
UT finished the regular season #2 in the polls even thought they went unscored on the entire season. That was the last Division 1 team to do so.

I'm glad the aggies are so reasonable about these things. I hope they are equally reasonable when the realize that the SECr doesn't officially recognize them as being part of the SEC.

Who gives a shite, none of them are NCAA titles.
If LSU would jump on this claiming every title they get thing, I would totally start a poll and give LSU a title every year. Damn them...
