Shocked Texas was #1 i expected top 4 but #1 surprised me. Everybody talks about Vince Young but the secondary on that team was nasty and loved to hit.

If non champs are included then, in order:

2016 Alabama (IMO, if this team had the threat of a pass it would be number 1, one of the all time greats)
2002 Miami
2011 LSU
2004 AU
2009 UF
2005 USC
2015 Clemson
2013 Alabama

Miami is by far the best team that season, but compared to the other teams on the list---they're not a clear cut #1. They had Mckinnie on OL, but they also had two walk-ons from Canada on that OL as well. Plus, Dorsey was a statute and honestly, a poor man's AJ McCarron. Bad match-up against a team like some of these Bama Squads.

The sad part about AU 2004 is if Brandon Jacobs never transferred, they would've destroyed Vtech in the Sugar Bowl. Their 2003 season dug them a huge hole they could never get out of.

They won the AP, which is still considered a legit NC claim. IMO, though LSU is the most legit champ, I have no problem with USC having their claim. They were a NC worthy team. It doesn't take away from LSU.

List is kind of meh.

2005 Texas I can see. I'd probably would rearrange a few on the list though.

100% agree

Both great teams, but LSU did beat both common opponents by one more point. And LSU actually had to play and win a conference championship game against a top 5 UGA team in Atlanta. And Saban D. Edge LSU.

From the article

quote:

The 2005 Longhorns are the top championship team of the past 20 years in large part because they claim the best player of the past 20 years. Quarterback Vince Young

Cam was better.

Don't care who they played or what the schedule looked like, I saw 01 Miami in person as a kid (2001 @ Penn State) and that is the best team to ever play.

Miami waxes #1 and #2

You have to include LSU 2011 team in this list. Besides the title game, where les miles with Jordan Jefferson fricked the game up, they played a badass schedule that year and killed everyone. On top of that, they beat 2011 alabama at their place that season. The 2011 LSU team would have been one of the best teams ever had they won the natty. They're still deserving of being on this list without question, what a joke.

That 2011 Alabama defense continues to be incredibly overrated. How can you call them one of the greatest ever if they didn’t play more than one really good offense? Besides Arkansas (who had a one dimensional offense at that) MSU was statistically the 2nd best offense coming in at 84th in the nation.

At the same time you guys want to shite on the 2013 FSU team for the same reasons.

The 2012 Bama team was much better.

I'm not sure why people keep saying this. Does anyone remember their roster and how badly they beat everyone? The average score of their games was 52-12.

They also have about 8 players from that defense that are starters in the NFL right now.
