Emory Jones is going to shock some people this year. Get your bets in now and make some cash! Heisman +4000

1. 4.3 speed
2. Cannon arm
3. #3 ranked QB in 2018 after Trevor Lawrence and Justin ?? Fields
4. Developing under Mullen for 3 seasons.
5. Last Duel Threat QB Mullen coached was Nick Fitzgerald and Dak. You can make a case Emory has more talent than either.
6. Say what you want about Dan. But he knows how to develop a quarterback.

Unreal athlete but just dont see him being able to throw the ball effectively.

Mullen was also the guy that thought Feliepe(?) Franks was his best QB. UF was an 8-4 team with Trask and Pitts last year. Jones might be a great QB, but that doesn't mean Florida will make much noise. Their defense is horrible.

I think his closest comparison is Lamar Jackson. Probably not as athletic/elusive but has a better arm. But I agree making the reads will be what defines him.

I came here to remind our fans that Feleipe Franks also had all the tools, although not as fast as Jones he was plenty fast and huge.

But as far as our defense goes, it did suck last year, but so did Bama's defense. So we just need to suck a little less. Take away Bama's run game and your defense gets gashed even worse than it did.

Emory has a pretty small frame for a 6'2 guy. I worry about him staying healthy if we're running him a lot. IMO we need to use Richardson in short yardage situations.

Outside of injury it really comes down to how well he can make reads and go through progressions. If he's merely adequate at both we can be really good.

The difference with Emory is his speed and running abilities will put a ton of pressure on defenses. I imagine everyone will run zone on him and force him to make the throws. But he won’t need to have pin point precision as there will be breakdowns everywhere due the stress his legs put on you. Key to the offense will be the offensive line getting their shite together for the running game, which is easier said than done.

Malzahn recruited him, and made him a priority, but lost him to UF. This alone makes me think Jones will be a bust.

so did Bama's defense

They weren't historical, but were still #1 in the SEC (#31 in the country with teams like Army and San Diego State rounding out the top 10) They still weren't Florida bad. The defense had two poor games all year against Ole Miss and UF and then dominated in the playoffs.

Why introduce hypotheticals to this?

Mullen has always had some big dudes playing QB in his version of the power spread. And they needed to be. He will get Jones going that's for sure. Keeping him going if he's the running game may be problematic.

We've all seen Emory Jones play extensively for 2-3 years. He's got some nice tools but he is not in the same stratosphere athletically or in terms of suddenness and breakaway abilities as Lamar Jackson.

I mean is he not similar? Does he not have a better arm? I’m not saying he is Lamar Jackson. Lamar is a freak of nature. And we haven’t seen shite from Emory. He could be awful for all we know…all I’m saying is +4000 odds is pretty good if you ask me for a offense than “could” be as explosive as UFs.

There’s no way he’s at his listed 6’2. 6 flat tops. He seems a bit of a smurf. But I guess Johnny Foosball was a smurf too.

But I’ll take that bet. He won’t finish top 10, let alone top 4.

To Lamar Jackson?????????? No, he's not similar

The longest run of Jones' career is 29 yards. He's had almost 100 career carries. Lamar Jackson had drives with more 25+ yard runs than Emory has in his career. Lamar Jackson was a threat to go to the end zone anytime he decided to tuck the ball. That's what makes him Lamar Jackson.
