Regardless of this specific law having ncaa regulations vary state to state determined by the legislature is a recipie for disaster which I expect will be a large argument in the upcoming lawsuit.

It'll be a game changer for California schools if they can't play anyone outside their state and lose all their TV money.

BTW how many pro athletes have endorsement deals with Amazon or Google?

Good luck to the local Tuscaloosa dodge dealer

Oh please. They aren't dumb enough to use a local dealer. They use the one in Gadsden.

What is going to happen is the NCAA will sue and win. Cali cannot bind the NCAA.

Once they win, they will declare the Cali athletes that take endorsement money ineligible, those programs will be ineligible for postseason, and the law will be repealed.

Just hypothetical. What if players decide they could care less about participating in or even winning the NCAA championship because I can make several million dollars playing in CA with a good marketing plan. It works for a few and the snowball begins.

Several million dollars...? What money tree do they have in California the rest of us don’t have?

As a fan of a piss ant school like SC, you should be the most worried.

But hey, ignorance is bliss.

Come sign with Alabama, we'll give you $250k to endorse my local business. Probably 4 or 5 endorsement deals.

What Head Coach is going to want to work through a players agent? No coach will give an agent the time of day, let alone work around a players fricking endorsement obligations.

"Oh Coach, I can't lift today....I got a photo shoot with Nike. Oh and I may not make it to class 'cause I'll be shooting a Gatorade commercial. My endorsement contract forces me to put in a certain # of appearances. But I'll be good to start on game day, I'll just be late to the locker room 'cause I got an autograph session pre-game." $$$$$

A bunch of other states are already considering similar legislation, Washington, Colorado, NY, NC and SC.

This will force the remaining states to jump on board and the ultimate dissolution of the NCAA.

States in the middle of the country will be forced to get on board unless they want to be perpetual bottom feeders in football. NCAA will become like the NAIA is now - a low tier league no one watches.

Ultimately it will come down to what ESPN thinks is best for ratings.

Haven't several Cali schools already stated they would not allow their student-athletes to get agents or sign endorsement deals that would be ruled impermissible by the current NCAA rules?

Endorsement deals can't compete with Dodge Chargers, Mens Warehouse suits, and barbers.
Pell Grants paid for all that.

What's stopping programs from dissolving the NCAA right now? The NCAA is a voluntary organizations and the members make he rules and enforce them. There are no State laws against college athlete signing endorsement deals or making $$ on their likeness.

LSU is not likely to make the cut based on your economic circumstances.

It's more than Pell Grants.

I haven't seen an updated figure in the last 10 years, so I know it doesn't include the stipend. But college athletes are eligible for about 20k a year in legal benefits.

They are also allowed to get student loans.

The poor college athlete is a myth.

Why doesn't california go after the nfl and have them remove their restrictions on drafting/hiring/ paying young players?

Remove that restriction and this is a non-issue.

You would think the employer issues should relate to employers.

NCAA will make all California schools ineligible to play in or host Championships.

Basically killing them.

All this talk of pay is sillyknowing most colleges struggle.
