This is a game changer. We'll see what happens but big markets like LA, Houston etc. will be hard to beat. Small States like several in the SEC could be in a severe disadvantage.

Enjoy SEC dominance it may be a dying thing.

Endorsement deals can't compete with Dodge Chargers, Mens Warehouse suits, and barbers.

What's going to happen is a lot of litigation, and California losing because the statute violates the contracts clause of the constitution.

Good luck to the local Tuscaloosa dodge dealer competing with Nike or Amazon. Wonder if they rather endorse an athlete playing in the LA or in a place like Starkville. Maybe the endorse both but will pay accordingly..... Wonder where the 5 star rather go to play given that.

It will make the California schools ineligible with the NCAA.

So I don't know what this thread is really about.

A bunch of other states are already considering similar legislation, Washington, Colorado, NY, NC and SC.

All the NCAA has to do is say the teams that has players paid will no longer be apart of the NCAA and that will effect ALL their sport teams.

And none of them will stick.

It's not a threat.

It amazes me how many people don't understand what the NCAA actually is.

It won't start until 2023. If California doesn't back down by then, pretty much every SEC state will enact similar legislation with a short window. This actually could work to increase the advantage in the SEC in the long run (just like the Longhorn Network did by resulting in the SEC network and the associated $ sharing).

Yeah, they will kill the athletics for those schools.

I doubt the law sticks. The government doesn't really have the right to force these kinds of things.

The California schools will lose HUGE. They would probably be banned or sanctioned by the NCAA and would lose so many MILLIONS in revenue.

Do you understand that it will kill college football if the NCAA allows it?

They aren’t going to pass and Lonnie knows that. He is just looking for anything to cause a demise of Dabo.

If by chance they do pass it will end up in court and will be tied up for years

Just hypothetical. What if players decide they could care less about participating in or even winning the NCAA championship because I can make several million dollars playing in CA with a good marketing plan. It works for a few and the snowball begins.

If that happens it will be the end of college football. Boosters will just pay recruits under "endorsement" deals.

Come sign with Alabama, we'll give you $250k to endorse my local business. Probably 4 or 5 endorsement deals.

It's just an example of California politicians not having a clue about what they are passing.
