Yes, it does. The best players are in the south. The south is the bible belt. If you want to recruit the bible belt, hold up a bible.

I can agree with this.

It's just a shame coaches have to stoop to using the bible to lure recruits to their school. would have thought a coach that professed to be religious wouldn't sacrifice their morals like that to land a recruit. but I guess when your stuck at a mid tier school you have to resort to all kind of questionable tactics to land the big fish

You will get better at it if you learn to be more subtle. Could have been a good one too.

Yeah, you're not doing much to counter the "religious people are dumb" trope.

It's not even that big an advantage. Sure, Richt finds a few religious kids but most 18 yr olds are far more enthralled by rings and arse.

If Chizik was still at AU, I could agree with the inclusion of AU.

I thought his religion pitch/schtick was phony as hell and strictly used a recruiting tactic. It was sleazy and unseemly.

But I haven't read or heard Malzahn using those kinds of tactics at all.

This AU staff hasn't been as "in your face" with their recruiting and seem to be focused more on the season and letting their play and wins help get interest from recruits, so their recruiting hasn't been the big splashy spectacle that we saw from Chizik's staff.

I'll reserve judgment until the season is over and AU puts more focus on recruiting to see if we get the religious schtick but I have a feeling that isn't something Malzahn is going to do.

I think the opposite, the religious coaches always seem to suck the most.

You're obviously uniformed.

Only the greatest coach in NFL history espoused the credo, "faith, family and the Green Bay Packers." LINK

It does not help a program, nor does it hurt it.

Brag about it? Does mentioning it mean you are bragging about it?

By the way....doesn't Dabo Sweeney say he is a Christian?

Coaches talk about hunting, golf, fishing and other things they enjoy all the time. how do they belong in football? Why do you care what a coach says, anyway, if you don't play for him?

Not that I have seen. I think its good for sports, but I always disagreed when coaches would pray about a win before games like God doesn't have anything better to do than give us a win. If he gives us a win, the other team has to lose, so what if they prey before games too? Does that mean its whoever prays the best? Im just not convinced that God cares about Football.

Noooooo. Jesus NEVER said that. he told the rich young ruler that HE should give away his possessions and follow Him(Jesus). Why? because Jesus knew the rich young ruler loved his money and possessions more than anything else in the world. But He was speaking to one person in particular in that case.

If you are talking about another instance, then I'm sorry. Please give me a reference and I will look it up.
