You get a trophy for the god damn citrus bowl as well

That's right, and THAT trophy says something the effect of "[year] Citrus Bowl Champions".

When you have a trophy from a reputable organization like the UPI or AP that says, "[year] College Football National Champions", you have an actual national championship.

USC has an AP trophy for 2003, therefore they have a share of the 2003 championship. It's just how it is.

Just dropping in to say that I wish Auburn claimed 1913, 1983 and 2004.

1913 has as good a case as any from that era
1983 I think is deserved and we have some okay selectors
2004 frick them haterz, claim it baby

Then what’s to be said about Alabama “forgetting” to acknowledge these pre 1983?

It’s not like whitworth and wade were bums that no one cared about.

Let’s name the years they were handed hardware from AP and UPi. Not thefootballthesaurus.com

REALLY LAUGHING AT YOU now........

You would do better researching your "facts' before posting and trying to insult someone.

I think you are the prime example of a couyon.

I think they've always acknowledged their AP and UPI trophies, they just added the pre-poll era Rose Bowl trophies as NCs to try to impress people not from the SEC, and then that 1941 abomination -just to frick with State, who won the SEC that year.

And that is sad.

It actually puts an Asterisk on that total number which is what current bama fans would absolutely hate.

And I get why. No one knew that Saban would go on the most unprecedented tear of all time.

They wanted to remain just as relevant as ND/Mich/media darlings and they got a little jealous.

Then, “hey, let’s inflate our numbers” became a thing.

Embarrassing to have a doctrinal asterisk. It makes other folks say, “why did they embellish it?”

So teams that were either banned from or chickened out of playing bowl games are ineligible for titles?

I’m an LSU fan, but BAMA was a better team than the IRISH

At least in 1978 we played #1 vs #2 in the bowl game. It didn't happen that often due to bowl contracts with the conferences back then but I don't think you can argue with that one. I wish we'd drop 41' but all the rest were legit imo.

Alabama played Nebraska, Missouri, USC, and Washington that year....woof

W/o Bama beating PSU, USC has no claim on the title. Voters also remember Bama getting robbed in 1977.
