Not saying they were a powerhouse under Jordan, but he did have some successful seasons as head coach.

#8 finish in 1955
#1 finish in 1957... National Champs... SEC Champs
#4 finish in 1958
#5 finish in 1963
#10 finish in 1970
#5 finish in 1972
#8 finish in 1974

Plus another four finishes in the #11-#20 range.

Auburn became nationally relevant as a program during the Shug Jordan years. During his 25 seasons at Auburn (1951-1975), he managed a 98-66-5 (59.5%) SEC record which was good enough for 3rd place in the SEC during the period... behind Alabama and Ole Miss.

Outside of the 1957 National Championship, I don't think Auburn would have even been considered a "national power" until Pay Dye came to Auburn in the 1980s. Auburn was a program capable of some good years. They put together some very good seasons in the 1950, '60s, and '70s.

But I think it was the 1980s that put Auburn on the map as a "national power".

All true.

And it was Dye who put us on the map as a national power.

Our claim to the 1983 title is stronger than anyone and we were likely 1 play away from a second under Dye in 1988.

Dye also won 3 straight SEC titles. Something only Bear had accomplished until Dye. Also, 4 consecutive top 10 finishes with no more than 2 losses in any season, and 9 consecutive winning seasons after his first year.

Of course we found out later just why Dye was so successful.

Not correct. 1983, 1993, & 2004 were all championship seasons

What championship did they win in 93?

Without looking, id say only around 20 national titles, or so. Didnt have to be baby back bitches and break rules for it, either

Yeah, Auburn is so far ahead of Arkansas in football national titles.......

Like i said, paper champions. Beat that chest for the dominance in 1 sport, and by dominance, i mean not so much

Bama is our only national power now. Florida isn't far from being there. Maybe someday Tennessee will get back on track.

We've dominated Arkansas to the tune of a hundred points the past couple seasons.

And yeah, I only care about football

This thread is clearly about football.

Last couple of seasons, arkansas worst in their history

Are you actually admitting your athletic department cares about the others? Complete and utter failure

True.

Frankly though, we weren't the best team in 1993. UF probably would have embarrassed us in a neutral sight rematch. Jordan Hare and Calvin Jacksons pick 6 were saved us against Spurrier that year.

I dont mind throwing it into a discussion like this though as we were the only undefeated team in the country. I just dont claim it like I do 1983 when it was clear we were the true champs that year.

2004 is a bit iffy. I think we would have beaten USC (we were certainly more talented as NFL careers bore out) but we will never know.
