16 teams, no byes, conference champs get auto host first round (top 8 seed). Everything works itself out with that kind of model.

Maybe we start with a rule that if your SOS is not in the top 50 then you are ineligible for the playoffs.
That eliminates SMU, IU, Clemson, Boise State, and Notre Dame this seaon.
Or maybe if you’re undefeated your SOS is irrelevant, one loss you need to be top 75, 2 or more losses top 50.

Who was our horrible loss? All 3 losses of ours were ranked at the time of the game.

You conveniently leave out how Bama beat Georgia probably best franchise the last 5 years in CF, beat LSU 29 on the road at night at LSU and beat Missou and SC. So yeah, those things trump the 3 losses.

They obviously didn't.
Teams who beat scrubs but lost to all their ranked opponents got in (like Texas, Indiana and SMU). Teams who lost 3 games with several of them being to scrubs (like Bama and Ole Miss) did not get in regardless of having good wins.

Best way to make a playoff sec gets 4 big 10 gets 4, acc and big 12 get one automatic bids. Groups of 5 best team get in auto …..committee only picks 5 teams who are left ….. whoever they want ! Wouldn’t be opposed to any team who wins conference gets a bye and maybe the top 2 teams get 2 byes . Gives everyone something to play for !
