It's not much different than Texas pronouncing fire as far or oil as ole.

Nobody pronounces it that way. Let me guess you pronounce them fiyur and oyul as if they are multisyllabic. You sound like a valley girl.

The way Shug’s family pronounces the name is not uncommon south of the Gnat Line. How do you pronounce word? English is a messy amalgamation of language and dialect.

Weird troll attempt on an American legend though. Coach Jordan saw action as an Army officer in four major invasions. After North Africa and Sicily, he was wounded at Normandy. He was then deployed to the Pacific theatre and served in Okinawa.

Show some respect, because that’s SEC royalty in your mouth.

It is pronounced Jerdan. Just like here in Texas it's Boerne (Bernie) , Mexia (maHaya), Burnet, and I could go on and on about bad pronunciations in Texas. Don't THROW STONES!

Could you explain to everyone why Tejas named their stadium after an OU All-American football player?

Rich coming from someone who is waiting on a phone call or certified USMail letter today!
What Shug was involved in back in the day was minor, petty in scheme of things. If you think Charlie McClendon was a saint you are crazy.

What's a "Shug"?

In Texas it's a plain old "Sh(uh)g"...

In Alabama it's pronounced as "Shoug"...as in Sugar.

I reckon we got a Horn fan who is too young to know these types of historical things...

But be prepared. Texas fans aren't very informed and they will make fools of themselves like this fairly frequently.

Either you are trolling or have the IQ of a 3rd grader

Famous Shug's

Shug Fisher - Actor (he was in lots of westerns) from Oklahoma
Shug Jordan - Famous CFB coach and WW veteran from Alabama
Shug McGaughey - Famous thoroughbred trainer from KY
Shug Avery - Oscar nominated actress from Oklahoma (near TX border)

How can you lived on this earth in the past 50 years and not know at least 1 of these people? Have you lived in a cave or been stranded on a desert island?

They have never used the “O” on TV. It’s always the “E”. I live in Alabama and I use the “O” like it’s spelled. His family that lives here doesn’t go by Jer-dun.

I'm a native Texan... My whole family is native Texan. We've been in east texas area over 200 years.

I know how Texans talk. LOL!

Those hippies in Austin may not sound like that, but they aren't Texans.

Because the war hero very close Auburns heart that the stadium is named for, pronounced his names that way.

Why are you concerned? You pronounce your own state Texas, when the correct pronunciation is Tejas.

This is why the SEC is better than anywhere else and also why Texas will never ever fit in.

Just out of curiosity (not that it will matter by season's end) how do you pronounce your current coach's name?

Fail troll job.

A quick bio of Shug before he got into coaching:

quote:

During World War II, Jordan fought in four major invasions as a United States Army officer. He saw action in North Africa and Sicily before being wounded in the invasion of Normandy and receiving a Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. After recovering from his wounds, he continued action in the Pacific theater, serving at Okinawa.

So, yeah, if Jordan wants to pronounce his name "Jerdan" I sure as hell am not gonna argue and no one else does either.
