Gary Patterson would’ve been a wildcard.

Sustain what? Tennessee's 6-6 seasons? Beggars can't be choosers.

What’s this? Knee jerk reactions on the Rant? After the most bizarre offseason in memory, no warmup cupcakes, and exactly one game we’ve decided we can define every team? Can’t happen. Completely foreign behavior for this board.

The question is if he’d consistently be able to win against UF, UGA, and bama while at UT. I’m not sure he’d be able to do that with average recruiting classes. I think his teams will always have upset potential, but the issue is consistency. It’s possible he could’ve gone there and could’ve recruited off UT’s brand alone, but we’ve never seen Leach at a big school so it’s an unknown. I think Leach is a great coach and is a perfect fit for schools trying to win with lesser talent. UT isn’t a school that has to do that though.

When is the last time any coach has been able to win those games consistently at Tennessee? Outside of one outlier season in 1998, Spurrier owned UT. Whomever coaches at Alabama generally owns Tennessee. Georgia has generally owned Tennessee.

It's kinda funny to hear Tennessee fans talk about how Leach wouldn't win big games consistently at UT, while there's literally nobody who would win those big games consistently at Tennessee. Your program isn't nearly what it used to be.

But Leach is the greatest coach to ever grace this planet. He has only lost games in the past because he’s been at shitty schools. Obviously not his incredible coaching acumen.

Now that he’s at a historical juggernaut like MSU it’s basically over for everyone else

lol I’m not a UT fan. I just agree with their choice of hiring Pruitt rather than Leach. UT isn’t a school that has to win with lesser talent. UGA and LSU have shown that if you can recruit at an elite level and have a good defense you’re an OC away from being a contender. Pruitt checks both of those boxes. I don’t think Chaney is the OC needed, but that’s irrelevant. It’s possible Leach’s offense skyrockets if given the talent UT would give him access to, but we just don’t know. At the very least if Pruitt doesn’t work out UT will be stocked for the next guy.

Would you rather have a coach that takes the talent that they have and have them perform at a level that far exceeds their expected level of play or would you rather have a coach that has his talent perform as normally expected?

It seems bizarre to me to say "UT isn’t a school that has to win with lesser talent." Like, do you think that it's a negative thing for a coach to have his players far exceed what people expect of them?

Everybody in the SEC (except Alabama and LSU) regret not hiring Leach. Yes, he got the better of LSU, but there is no better match for LSU than Orgeron.

I'm glad to see Coach Leach in the SEC West. Mississippi State may just be someone to be seriously worried about for a while with him at the helm of that pirate ship.

Ironic coming from a Tech Fan. Didnt you guys fire Leach for bullying Craig James's Boy. Leach finished 3rd or worse 7 out of 10 years when he was at Tech.

I agree with altalnta917 and also think its way to early to tell. Ill eat crow if he beats the bamas, auburns, georgias floridas etc over the next couple years. The SEC aint the Pac 12 and Big 12.

I think coaches that recruit well have a higher ceiling than those who don’t. Again, I think Leach is an excellent offensive mind, but there’s clearly a reason why big schools aren’t going after him. Maybe all those schools and I wrong for thinking that. Until Leach gets a chance at a school like that we’ll never know.

Not sure I understand your remark. I'm a Texas Tech alum here to enjoy to the Leach roller coaster as I did with Washington State.

I don't think they will in a few weeks. Leachs offense will come back down to earth LSU should have beaten them if we didn't have such stubborn coaches.
