Won’t win anything until he finds out that football is more than just offense.

The consensus from Oklahoma fans is that he never made a commitment to being physical and playing defense and left the program in way shittier shape than he found it.

It's probably more "discussable" on the MSB. But hey, let's talk Prime at Colorado in here as well. Not like the admin are paying attention.

I was watching the highlights from their game and it’s not that USC doesn’t have some talented players but they look soft AF and like every Riley team I’ve ever watched play. I don’t think they’re top 10 at all and I say this knowing that we shouldn’t be ranked going into the season.

Their strength and conditioning program is terrible. Players have said they had it harder in high school workouts. He won’t let them be physical in practice very much because he’s afraid to get his offensive players hurt. That leaves the defense soft, can’t tackle, and are not as big and strong as they should be. He doesn’t discipline his stars so they do what they want. If they don’t feel like working out then they just skip it.

USC fans will eventually figure out that Riley's defensive 'philosophy' has nothing to do with stopping offenses.

It has nothing to do with sacks.
It has nothing to do with tackling.
It has nothing to do with getting off the field on 3rd downs.
It has nothing to do with run defense.
It has nothing to do with passing defense.
It doesn't teach players any technique whatsoever.

So has he not figured it out they he can simply leave the defense alone to a highly qualified Sc that will take the D over?

A major part of why Tulane was able to come back and beat USC was b/c his stupid arse refused to take the foot off the gas and run clock until it was too late. He did that crap at OU too. He's never going to win it all until he learns you can't go full bore all game long.

This is all true. When Schmitty came back he was walking though the weight room with some players and asked what those "rubber band thingies are". When they told him it was part of their S&C under Riley...

His reply: "Well I'll tell you what we're gonna do. We're gonna throw all this P90X shite in the f*cking trashcan right now".... and he proceeded to do precisely that.

While this may be true, it is exaggerated to a great extent. Most OU fans thought we were going to win the league last year after we clobbered Nebraska. The volume on all that stuff went way up after OU started losing.

Furthermore, probably 80% of OUr fans would have bet their first born child that OU was going to have a better record than USC last year because USC was in such a "shambles"...They were all picking for USC to have a losing record. Most of them still won't admit they were wrong and instead just chortle about "Tulane"...

We OU fans have a right to be pissed at Riley for not being honest when he left and taking our QB in the manner that he did (although that is going to be the norm going forward)...

But the dude is a good coach. Percentage wise he has the best winning record in OU history. Better than Bud Wilkinson, Barry Switzer or Bob Stoops. And unfortunately for OU fans... he probably always will.

Yeah, that’s awesome. Especially when OU rolled out a baby shite soft defense that was every bit as bad as the Riley defenses and turned in the worst season in a quarter century.

Riley is a good coach, won’t win it all because zero commitment to defense (as evidenced by retaining Alex Grinch), but should be a perennial playoff team going forward.

OU fans have the redass about how he left, and I can’t blame them. I wouldn’t listen to most of their assessments of his ability though. There’s a very low chance that Venables will exceed Riley as a coach. Put another way, Riley is a better offensive coach than Venables is a defensive coach, recruiting is a push, and overall program management is TBD.

That defense had no talent on it. That's why none of the turds that declared for the NFL got drafted. None of them did.

He was being held back at Oklahoma. USC will be fine.

Good question. BV has 3 NC rings to LiaR's 0.

He can speak for himself, but I’d guess he’s making the point that since Riley has the highest winning percentage in OU history, better than Bud, Barry, and Bob, that it’s unlikely Brent will win more than 85% of his games.

Saban has on 88% at Bama, so Brent basically has to turn into Saban to win more at OU than Riley.
